Megan Rose and everyone else - we are our own worst enemies when it comes to looking in the mirror! I am one of those people who puts weight on proportionally - I retain the same basic shape, but everthing just gets bigger - so it made it really easy for me to lie to myself when I was heavy and say that I really wasn't that big. It also makes it really difficult for me to realize that I am actually quite small now. My trick - forget the scale or the pictures or the mirror - my trust measuring tape helps me see things as they really are. No matter what my mirror shows - there is a hell of a lot of difference between a a 37" waist and a 27" waist. Megan Rose, I bet that your measurements reflect the same thing. You have done so well and been so committed! I love to read your journal because you are so enthusiastic about life and the journey that you have put yourself on - you have made amazing progress! One other comment - believe your friends' comments. They are truthful.

Me too, after losing almost 60 lbs, I still see the "big"me, tho I still have lots to lose. What has helped was seeing a picture of me pre-weight loss, and then a picture of me now, boy can you see the difference. But the turn side is I have been "big"most of my life, and I know that when I get down to my goal, I will still see me as a large person....and it will take a long time to convince my brain that I am no longer big.
time helps, and those pictures also help.

This happens to men, too. After my husband lost over 100 lbs he still looks at himself as fat, he still won't take his shirt off at pools or the beach, still wants to wear clothes that are way to big and baggy. I have to force him to try clothes on because a Large will fit him and he always goes for the XL. (Now, two years ago he was wearing 4X LOL)

He had gastric bypass, but as a result he cut out carbs anyway, he couldn't digest them! Then, slowly, he added them back in, as well as sugars. Now his weight loss has stalled, he still has 40 lbs to go.
