Good Luck!
Welcome to LCE. This is a terrific place for support and info! Post often and let us know how it's going for you.
The major pieces of the puzzle are, read the book and know your plan, drink your water, and add in exercise. With those three tools, your journey will be less *bumpy*
Happy New Year!

REad your book, refer to it often and when you stumble--get back on the horse so to speak...
Welcome to Low Carb Eating...I am working on losing 100 lbs--70 down, 30 to go so it can be done. Check out the pictures in the photo gallery for some before/during/after pictures...they are absolutely amazing.
hey lucky- i'd wish you luck, but you've got the book and you're here; that's the only luck you need! the rest is info and working your plan, man.
i also second husker's suggestion to check out the photo section (you may have to log out and log back in to see photos-it does that). i found that was some of the most important inspiration i found when i was starting out.
remember, it's all about changing your habits, one day, one meal, one hour at a time. if you keep moving in the right direction, you WILL get where you wanna go.
read your book, eat good, healthy food when you're hungry, and once you get over the sugar crash (if you have one), you'll most likely find yourself feeling great, losing weight, and having a grand ol' time!
welcome and here's to a great 2005 for you and us all!
Lucky, you'll do great!
This is a "diet" unlike any other I've been on. I get to eat real food. I can usually find something that fits my "diet" in most restaurants, without having to resort to salad-no dressing (remember doing that? blech!). And I'm seldom hungry.
I've been on this sit for almost three months and I've found a great deal of encouragement and a LOT of wonderful people here. Make yourself at home...you are now one of the family.

I will most definitely be referring back to the book. I've read it twice already, I have stock piled water and protein, I have salad material, and this site- which I have been lurking around
for a few days.
I made my announcement to my hubby and kiddos- I think I'm set. My oldest son has decided to follow with me. (We're the only two fat...er horizontally challenged people in our family. The other two are built like rails! It's disgusting, really!)
Shelly- Evercise?!? You mean I have to sweat?!? Just kidding
We're intending to start walking. start slow- work up![]()
Husker- 70 out of 100 gone--that is fabulous! Wow- I want to do that, too! I will most definitely check out photos- thanks for the suggestion
goddess- you are so right about the one day at a time. The habit changing aspect may be the trick for me- but I have resolved to make them! Period.
Melissa- I've done that low fat thing- that's part of the reason I'm a house (ok- not that big, but close!:silly: )
Thank you, in advance, for the support!
So glad to 'meet' you all! Thanks so much for the welcome!

Lucky,
Walking is great!!! It's my FAV!! Yes, do start out slow...say, 5-10 minutes in one direction, then turn around and walk back home, and TA-DA...you've gotten in 10-20 minutes worth of exerciseI've been side-lined with a heel injury, and it's really not much better...but I'll definitely be moving this year, one way or the other!
Again...Welcome...we're glad you're here

Welcome to low carbing, Lucky! And welcome to this Board. You will find a wonderful group of supportive people here. We all started on the first day - at one time or the other! We all know what it's like! Do stick around. Post often and regularly. Ask questions. Don't let yourself get hungry! This is not a low fat plan! There are a lot of things that you can eat. This is what has kept me going in the rough times.

Reta, I posted to you on another thread, but I'm glad to say "Welcome" again! Just please keep this in mind on your journey: You did not gain this excess weight overnight, and you will not lose it overnight, either.
I went from about 170 to the 240's in about 2 years (depression/relocation/broken heart issues). And it's taken me longer than that to deal with the issues and begin to get serious about losing the weight.
I always recommend to everyone that they read Dr.Phil's book: The Ultimate Weight Solution~7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom. This book really helped me with the emotional issues, and this site has helped me with the eating issues. I believe what you eat and what's eating you are closely related.
After some mental exercises and goal setting, the good Dr. begins to explain the 7 things he has learned (over many years of obesity counseling) that really help people to set up their lives for success.
Key 1 will help you think straight about yourself. It's called Right Thinking.
Key 2 is an exercise in pinpointing past hurts and coming to terms with them.
Key 3 is called Maintaining a No-Fail Environment. Basically, throwing out the cookies, and the clothes that are too big.
Key 4 is called Mastery over Food and Impulse Eating. Very helpful.
Key 5 is the chapter on Nutrition. Although he doesn't call it lowcarb....and it's not, the nutritional advice is good. Just keep this WOE in mind as you read it.
Key 6 is about exercising......'nuff said!
and Key 7 is called Your Circle of Support (which does include us here)
If you want to read it, just check it out of the Library, make yourself some notes, and return it. Great stuff.
Take care and keep us posted on your progress!![]()

It's so good to be home!
Welcome Lucky13!
I love this way of eating. I have been on it for four and a half months and I wouldn't change it for anything. I have lost 52 pounds as of this morning and I feel better than I have in a long time. I've got about 50 more pounds with my goal than you. I'd like to be about 180. Sometimes it seems like a lifetime away but I figure the time will pass if I am eating right or wrong. So why not eat right and be healthier and thinner in the end.

Many have offered good advice so I'll just say "Welcome."
Also, (I have to add something...) try checking out the "Beginners" section of LCE - see above - it will be helpful
