Default Bruises and missed TOM

Hi,

I've been low carbing for about 6 weeks now, I don't have any significant weight loss though, I have been working out with weights a lot, so for now I'll tell myself it's a muscle vs. fat thing.

ANYWAY, this is my second TOM since I started, and I am not showing any signs of getting my period this time(should have showed up yesterday). I'm on the pill, so it always shows up on the same day. I know what you may be thinking, but I couldn't possibly be pregnant.

Also, I have about 5 mysterious bruises on my legs that don't hurt. I did read that a lack of vitamin C can cause this, so I'll start taking more C. And I've been getting bad foot cramps so I started taking Potassium, Calcium, and Magnesium. I hope the vitamins take care of the bruising and foot cramps, but not sure what's up with the missed period.

Anyone else have any of these issues, and any advice?

As always, thanks for any advice you have.

-dela

Nevermind on the TOM issue . That always happens, as soon as I go to a doctor, ask for help, etc. my problems magically disappear. But the bruising is still there.

Dela, WELCOME!

Well, I must be frank with you and tell you that we are neither willing nor able to give you medical advice on this board. What we CAN offer you is information and support in regards to your LC woe (way of eating).
If you are having unexplained bruising, you should see a doctor immediately as this coule be triggered by any number of things. Never take symptoms such as these lightly; it may just be a coincidence that they began when you started this woe.
As for the missed TOM, it is very common for women whose hormones are out of whack from being overweight, to miss periods when they first start losing weight. Often, they will miss several as their bodies and hormone levels try to adjust.
Since insulin is a key hormone in regulating *female hormones* and this way of eating affects insulin levels (in a good way), it's very possible that this is all that is going on.
HOWEVER, again I would advise that you check with your OB/GYN -- especially if you are NOT very overweight (more than 50 pounds) or if you have never missed a TOM before. This could also be a red flag that something else is wrong and should not be ignored.
I know I haven't been much help, but I do wish you the best and much success with this way of life! Hope to see you posting more,

Thanks! and LOL! Not sure about the bruises, but I'll start taking the supplements and see how things go for a bit.

also, i dont' think it's actually the vitamin C, I think it's the BIOFLAVINOIDS that help with bruising. Be sure to take a C supplement with bioflavinoids. But do check on that. I'm definitely NOT a doctor.

I have noticed that I bruise easier now than I did before, though I am a bit more conscious of what my legs look like too...I swim 5-6X a week and know what I look like in a bathing suit...and bruises are noticable...I also have less...ummmm...padding, but if you can't seem to figure out where they came from, I would not let it go on too long before I at least asked a doctor about them...My mom says I have always bruised fairly easy...very fair skin is part of that...I also teach PE and am very active and crawl around on my knees and stand on my knees and bump kids and move kids all day so a stray foot here or there is bound to meet my shins and then moving equipement all over the gym I drop somethign or trip over it a bit and VOILA...big ugly purple bruise! I am absolutely not a doctor eitehr!

The minerals will help with foot cramps - I had a bad leg cramp the other night - has missed my supplements that day and did extra exercise. I use Morton's lite salt - half salt, half potassium- this helps keep them in balance.

I take extra magnesium for the night leg cramps. Works like a charm. I have always bruised easily. I have olive skin, so go figure. If I scratch an itch too hard, I will get a bruise. I had a root canal once and the next day the whole side of my face was bright purple. Looked like my husband beat me up. I mentioned this to a doctor once and he just brushed the question aside.
