    Question Apple Cider Vinegar

    Hi Everyone:

I hope that someone can answer my question. I am brand new to low carbing and have visited about every site on the www to no avail. Is Apple Cider Vinegar an acceptable condiment to use in dressings and other recipes? I have seen a lot of recipes using red wine vinegar (which I am not a big fan of) but nothing with apple cider vinegar. The only ingrediants listed are: Apple Cider Vinegar and Water, there are 0 calories, 0g fat, 0mg sodium, 0g carbs, and 0g protein.

Thank you in advance. I am preparing to go to town with my new life style.

    Welcome webdiva.
Which plan are you on? If Atkins, it sounds ok to me - no sugar like balsalmic vinegar. If you are doing ketosis sticks you can use it and test to see if you stay in ketosis.

I am using the Atkins format but using recipes from George Stella, Dana Carpender, and other cook books. I don't care for pre-packaged foods so I plan to spend this weekend preparing several low-carb meals, snacks, etc. so that I will have them on-hand and won't be tempted to hit a fast food restaurant looking for a low carb meal.

I am a pretty good cook so I figured that with Splenda, Sugar Twin (brown), and other sugar free condiments, I should be able to concoct some pretty decent stuff.

Thank you very much! Hope to talk again. I am relying on the Vets advice.:fork:

Diva, yes, ACV is good for you! Actually there was quite a lengthy thread on this site about the benefits of organic ACV. That's the unprocessed cloudy stuff that has "The Mother" in it . . . little threads floating around in the bottle. But don't ask me to explain what those threads are! Try putting "ACV" in the search function. A lot of people put 1 to 2 teaspoons in a cup of water with a little liquid Splenda and drink it for its health benefits. I use it to make my salad dressing along with olive oil and some liquid Splenda.

Cider vinegar is fine. Count it as 1 gm per Tablespoon and 3.5 gms for a quarter cup.

stuff we have discussed pertainin to ACV is HERE and here a little more here too..
i take it by shots a couple three times a day..(except when i start to feel REALLY good on it... when i decide i dont NEED it... and of course i DO... so when i realize that.. i start again...) also use it as an astringent toner on face.... and yesterday got a big ole burn while making bacon and i put it on a gauze pad and it looks bad but feels GREAT now.. might scar... but hey! it doesnt hurt! *L*)

i use braggs and it has no carbs... but there ARE others that do... spectum or specter or SPEC something does... it has two in a serving.. which is alot... but i only bought it because thats all they have in this hick ..i mean LOVELY little town i live in.. so until i get to a TOWN where i can buy another GALLON for 15 bucks... i am stuck with the over charged over carbed nasty SPECTUM.. SPECTOR ..SPEC SOMETHING that i have.. (too lazy to go read it..)

There is no such thing as a vinegar with zero carbs, Kim. Many of them list "0" which they can do if it's under .5 for the serving size - which the manufacturer gets to pick. You'll see the same thing with mayonaise and other things. They just pick a serving size that comes in under .5 and then call it zero.
