| I've been doing everythnig right. Everyday I check my strips and they are dark pink to almost purple. I drinK plenty of water, I haven't exercised this week much but I have been playing outside with ym daugher. Which includes playing soccer and walking up the street. I know I shouldn't have gotten on the scale but it says I gained a lb and a half this week. What is going on why is this happening how could this happen. Do I need to cut down to 15 carbs tell me what to do. LAST WEEK I HASD LOST 8LBS Help Stacy

| Stacy - It's not at all unusual to see a pound gain from one week tot he next even if you've been doing everything right. There is uaually a large weight loss on induction the first week and then a slowing down or even a stall by the third week. It's most likely water retention or a tempermental scale. Hang in there - This is not a short term woe! Do Not go below 20. |

| Stacy, please do not quit! The low carb way of eating is a proven life style . . . but it can be tempermental! Please keep on. Eight pounds last week is a lot of weight! I am sure your body is just catching up with itself. And I can't tell you how many weeks I have been up and down 1-2 pounds. I have just learned to accept it and keep plugging away. Result? I am close to goal! How are you feeling physically? (I know you are upset emotionally right now!) Are you feeling better? Little or no cravings? A little more energy? You may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but you should be feeling a little more energetic. Everyone's body is different. It is very hard to pin anything down. Try to think of low carbing as an experiment in better health. Weight loss is the icing on the cake. As with any experiment, you have to test and try out different methods. For instance, I have just figured out too much liquid Splenda will give me some cravings. So now I use half Stevia and half liquid splenda in my green tea. When queried, many people on this site have no problems with too much splenda. Everyone's different! We are here to help you as much as we can. But in the end it is up to you. Good luck!

| Stacy, {{{hugs}}} Please know that we long-term LC'ers have been where you are and felt what you feel, but quitting is NOT the answer! There are SO many possible reasons why you are seeing a small gain: >water retention due to salty foods and/or hormone levels (TOM?) >body rebuilding muscle stores after poor protein diet (before you started eating LC) >Natural fluctuations in body composition that occur ALL the time in EVERYONE I could go on and on and provide you with all kinds of *logical* and *scientific* explanations for this, but I feel the real problem here is your wavering commitment. :( YOU LOST 8 POUNDS IN ONE WEEK????!!! That is incredibly AWESOME and I know people who don't even come CLOSE to that in their first month (and I've been doin' this awhile!) You need to be HAPPY with your success and (more importantly) REALISTIC. You need to set realistic goals. You didn't put all that weight on in 2 weeks; you aren't going to lose it all in 2 weeks. But I know you know that. And correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't your *first* time LC'ing, is it? If you have done this before, the induction loss is RARELY as good as it was your initial attempt at LC -- and it gets more difficult with each consecutive attempt (more motivation to stick with it, eh?). You are doing GREAT! And maybe you just needed to hear that. We all do from time to time... I wrote this: WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE QUITTING a couple of years ago (brought over from our old board) and I STILL go back and read it from time to time. It's a very good reminder. I hope it helps you as well. Hang in there,

| Ditto to all the good advice. Don't give up because of one week (or even two). I had a 7 pound loss week followed by a one poud loss a couple weeks ago and started weighing myself too often. I was losing steady at 3 pounds a week but with the 1 pound loss I was disappointed in myself and thought. "Well, I've been this weight for so long and I've lost those 40 pounds I put on after having the baby so what's the difference." The scale is not always going to be our friend. Stick with this WOE. Don't drop too low on the carbs or you'll want to give up for sure. I've put the scale in the trunk of the car for now and am not weighing myself for two weeks so I break the habit of turning to the scale to measure my performance. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! We're here for you when you need us. It's easy to quit but asking for help gives me the sign that you can muster the determination to keep on going.

| stacy- sorry to hear you're feeling down. we've all been frustrated at one time or another to realize that although we've done everything "right," the weight isn't coming off as fast as we'd like it to. as in, when does that EVER happen? in addition to the comments others have made, you have to realize this is for the long haul if you want to make it happen. heck, weight can fluctuate several pounds in one day! it's water weight, but it happens. that's why it's really important not to live and die by the scale's daily fluctuations and get a long-term view of where you are going. it's fun when the weight just peels right off, i know. and it's very cool to see those numbers dropping. but your body has to adjust. i know for me, it's very common to have a week or two of good losses followed by a week or two of nothing. even more now, the closer i get to my goal. if you think like you're dieting, then it's short term effort for short term results. if you are, however, changing the way you eat, then it's habit changes for long term results. that mental shift is crucial in acheiving success here. the other thing that helped me through slower loss periods was having several ways of measuring my progress. you're using sticks, which is one way to see you're being successful. you can take measurments, pay attention to your clothes and how they fit, look at your energy level, and on and on. i also tracked my average losses over a long term and realized that, although in any given week i may have lost only a pound or two, or even none at all, in the LONG-TERM i was losing consistently and that's what makes the difference. good luck. |
