| Boy do I love eggs, and boy do I eat em. Since Atkins is very egg friendly, I've found myself eating a LOT of eggs, sometimes up to 8 or 10 a day. Is it OK to eat this many eggs? I just wanna make sure cause its kind of a lot.

| Personally, I wouldn't eat more than 3-4 eggs a day. Are you eating them for snacks, using them in cooking, or on salads? I use egg beaters along with whole eggs when cooking or even for breakfast; for example...1 whole egg with a 1/4 cup egg beater for my 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast, add in some lean ham or some grated cheese and that makes a nice sized omlet. But like I said, it's just my personal choice not to consume that many eggs per day. HTH Shelley

| I have been known to eat 6 or so in a day (3 for breakfast, egg salad for lunch, one on a salad, etc...). I LOVE eggs too! I think it might be a personal tolerance, YMMV thing. I just wouldn't get my cholesterol checked on the day I consumed 10 eggs! And be sure you're eating plenty of veges too!!Seriously, though, I'm no doctor or expert by any means.... so I can't give you a technical reason why you should or shouldn't. Just wanted to let you know you've got a fellow egg-lover out there! (BTW... when you said 8 - 10 eggs, the first thing that popped into my head was the scene from the movie The Replacements where the Japanese line-backer was eating hard boiled eggs before the game! Had to laugh!)

| Hey Achilles -- I think eggs are probably the most perfect Atkins food available -- if I could stand 8 eggs a day - I'd definitely be eating them. This is from Atkins.com --Eggs are such an efficient source of nutrition that they?re often called the perfect food. One large egg provides 70 calories, 6 grams of protein, less than 1 gram of carbohydrate, 4.5 grams of fat and generous amounts of many vitamins and minerals. In fact, the only nutrient completely absent from the egg is vitamin C?chickens, unlike humans, manufacture all they need. If you like them, and can stand doing that long term - go for it! ;-) |

| 8-10 eggs every day? Extra Large eggs? I suppose you are really active, though. They certainly are a fast and easy, tasty, inexpensive meal, so I can understand why you're drawn to eating lots of eggs. Just laymen's thoughts below, as I've no specialized knowledge in this area. I generally think it's a good idea to mix things up - eat a variety of different protein foods (chicken, eggs, cheese, meats, fish, even tofu). That way you're more likely to cover all your nutritional bases. And, less likely to burn out on a useful food. Eating 8-10 eggs in a day once in a while probably isn't going to be a problem. But I'm not sure it's the best way to go on a daily basis.

| I've eaten as many as a dozen in one day before while doing a mini egg fast. Now I can barely stand the thought of eggs. I guess I got burned out on them. But other then that, the eggs didn't hurt me any. And I lost a lil weight from it. |

| Well coming from another egg lover(who probably does between 4-6 eggs daily on induction), they are really the perfect food.... .... I'm not sure if you know it, but the Fat fast that Atkins uses for metabolically resistant people uses eggs alot. I guess they are perfect no matter what stage you are in. I say, as long as you are getting some veggies in too, don't worry about it! |

| According to Dr. Diana Swarzbein, the cholesterol in our arteries is created by our bodies when we don't digest enough dietary cholesterol. If we eat eggs and other foods with dietary cholesterol then the HGM-Ca Reductace enzyme is switched off and the liver doesn't make body cholesterol. If we don't eat dietary cholesterol then our bodies manufacture it and that is what clogs the arteries. See The Swarzbein Principle. According to her we need to eat cholesterol every day and she says to eat as many eggs as your body needs. Achilles - you might burn out on them, though so you might go easy. Karen

| VWMom.... I'm hoping you have undertaken the reading of the LC reading material..... but just to let you know.... by lowering one's body weight(which is a cholesterol problem in itself) he is doing something good for his body.... and there have been alot of studies on eggs which make them "cholesterol risks" mostly when linked to an unhealthy diet. He should be okay with the eggs.... think about it.... I don't think Dr. Atkins would have made them such high priority in his fat fast if they were really a killer food. Just a thought. And not to mention that his lists them as one of the "no holds barred" foods for induction.

| Achilles, I'm gonna start a "What do you do with eggs?" thread and see what our lovely group comes up with. Scope it out....if you're gonna eat that many eggs in one day (and I'm not saying you shouldn't) you may get bored. Check it out, I'll put it in the Cooking Forum. Maybe I'll ask how they cook their eggs.....someone might get smart and say "I throw them at people on Halloween." or something like that!
