Default So whats the big deal.

I hear that green tea is "sometihng" important, but what is all the comotion. I tried to search it out, i tried to google, but i got thousands of post and advertisments. Can someone please tell me what is so beneficial in green tea ( i dont need all the medical stuff, just in English). Also if this green tea is in like packets like regular tea bags, can i brew it like iced tea in my ice tea maker?

I know it is a newbie question, this is why i thought it was appropriate here. Thanks alot..

If you go to the Challenge section, (under Special Interests) and then read the first few posts of the old Green Tea Challenge, that will bring you up to date. It's amazing stuff. And yes, green tea bags are fine. If you like a particular flavor green tea, that's fine, too. Recent revelations on the GT challenge are that 4 to 5 cups (8 oz. per cup) are what's necessary to really reap the benefits.

Thanks for the link, Maxi. And that settles it at 4 cups a day! Did you ever post this link on the Green Tea thread?

I drink about 48 oz when I get all of mine in but only because I use a HUGE cup! I like the way I feel when drinking it though too...I missed most of this last week and can really tell the difference between now and last week...hormones were making it taste funny to me I think since it was from the same box I was drinking the week before...but lots of things dn't taste good to me during TOM.

The benefits of green tea are purported to be many. Here are just a few:
It's an antioxidant that helps prevent cancer. It may help with weight loss. Lowers cholesterol. Stimulates the immune system. Helps regulate blood sugar. And is supposed to prevent tooth decay.

This is the information I got from Phyllis A. Balch's "Prescription for Nutritional Healing A-Z Guide to Supplements." Of course, what her book doesn't tell you is how much you need to drink for these benefits. Will one cup be enough? Will 20 cups cause an overdose? Such is the problem with herbs, supplements and the like.

Me...I try to get in 3-5 cups a day. Yesterday I had none, but it was a busy away from home day. Today I've had one and have started on the second.

i am in the middle of my first glass. The lady at the store said not to drink 4 cups a day. she said i need to "ease" into it, like one today, two tomorrow, etc. Any advice? I thought a cup was eight ounces. Btw i have amde mine at twelve ounces with one tea bag and added a couple of ice cubes and a packet of Splenda (is this ok, or does it need to be stronger?). It isnt a chocolate milshake, hopefully it is an acquired taste.

Generally, a "cup" of tea is 8 oz. of water to one teabag. Brew/steep according to the directions. You may want to read the OLD "Green Tea Challenge" thread for the discussions we had about this. Go to Challenge Forums and look for Green Tea Challenge. There's a "New Green Tea Challenge" which is the one we're posting in for the new year. Check out the old one....there's lots of debates/discussions/ideas in there. Hope that helps.

Tastes kinda grassy doesn't it? I have discovered some with other flavors that seem much easier for me to drink. e.g. green tea with mandarine orange flavor, and now I am trying with blueberry flavor. Much better to me than the plain green tea!
