Here are a couple of books that may help you pick an LC plan to follow. Both books describe and assess the major LC eating plans, explain some of the science behind low carb metabolism, and offer many useful tips and hints:

Living the Low Carb Life by Johnny Bowden
The Secret to Low Carb Success by Laura Richards

As time went on, I also found it helpful to seek out some good low carb recipes and cookbooks. That greatly expands your menu choices so you don't get bored eating "plainly".

In fact, that's one of the really fun things about this "WOE" (Way of Eating) -- discovering new foods and new ways to enjoy familiar foods.

You guys another quick question. I just got my wisdom teeth pulled, and the last time I ate was at 7pm last night. I went out and looked for low carb foods that I could swallow and couldn't find many. I ended up with chicken broth that is only 0g and jello which has about 17g to 23g. I know it was bad for me, but I can't eat anything else. will this be a stall in the losing weight process, and will my body start going off of the carbs again? I've been at this for a week now. Please help, I need to make sure I'm still on track and this didn't theough me off. Thanks ya'll.

Britt

britt- relax, ok? i can hear your anxiety from kansas. this is a lifetime thing, so if you are ill or have something going on where you decide to eat something "carby" or whatever, then that's what you do. you make the best decisions you can under the circumstances. low carb is still there tomorrow. what is an extra day or so in the course of your entire life?

if you want lc to work for you, you have to make LIFETIME changes in how you eat. granted, as you get further along in your path, you make appropriate adjustments, but you need to let go of the diet mentality. you can fail a diet. you have to stop counting the minutes and focus on each day, making the best choices you can. and if one day doesn't shape up the way you'd like, don't worry about it. just keep going. it's not making perfect choices or having a perfect set of circumstances or whatever that will get you there. it's persistance. that's it. by obsessing about doing everything perfectly, you set yourself up to fail because you have a life in progress and sometimes, there will be this or that come up. you do the best you can and realize, that's ALWAYS good enough.

and i don't mean to be stern here, but i have to say: you have been at this a week. the word "stall" shouldn't even be in your vocabulary at this point. seriously! you're just starting, hon. take it one step at a time and realize you're fine, really. just keep doing your research, get your book, and keep working on making good choices OVERALL. no single day will make or break you. take the best care of yourself as you can, and try to make reasonable choices under the circumstances. make the best choices you can. the secret is to not focus on the weight, the speed, and all the things you used to focus on. instead, put your energy towards developign good HABITS. it's your overall habits, not any single day's menu, that will drive your success. it's hard to trust at first that it works and you can do it, but it's true. just keep going and sooner or later, you find yourself there!

take care of yourself and heal soon. peace out from the loud-mouthed pink-haired lady.

Britt, why don't you start a journal? You'll be easier to find, and you'll get lots more encouragement, too. You can vent your frustrations, and post your successes. And when you ask questions, you'll probably get more people posting their opinions and experiences.

Looking forward to peeking into your journal. (Hint, hint)

hahahaha you guys are crazy. Yes I did the jourel and got through the freaking out over nother phase. So far I've lost 8lbs last time I checked so it's working. I eat ALOT of eggs now, for example, my breakfast i had 3 scrambled eggs and a piece of ham, for lunch i made egg salad with 4, and ate the whole thing, haha oppss, and other than that so far it's been water. I'm going to tear up some broccoli and ranch dressing a little later. But to many eggs do you think? Also my teeth are still messed up so I have like 1/4 cup of chocolate ice cream, 17g of carbs per 1/2 cup, so i'm still under the 20, but there was sugar. lol

britt-be sure to vary your diet and get in plenty of veggies.

i have to be honest-the sugar is not a good idea, regardless of the carb count and may bring cravings for you if you continue to eat it. if you are going to eat ice cream, you would be better off looking for something like breyers' carbsmart or sugar free stuff. even that has to be very limited if you expect to continue to lose.

you could also look at other, creamy kinds of desserts if that's what you're wanting. some people take heavy creeam and a little splenda, whip it up, and put it in diet rootbeer for a rootbeer float, for example.

and if your teeth are still bothering you two weeks later, you may want to talk to your dentist.

good luck.

Hi I figured I'd introduce myself. I need to lose 40 pounds. Before deciding to try low carb I did loose 25 pounds through just regualr dieting. I hit a plateau, and started hitting the gym and eating low carb. So here I am!

How wonderful that you've had so much weight management success. I think you will enjoy low carb eating more and more as you learn more about it. That's one of the fun things about this way of eating - discovering new foods and new uses for familiar foods. What plan are you following?

Hello, my name is Tonya and I started on this low carb journey this morning. It's really gonna be hard for me because I suffer from hyperglycemia my blood sugar drops if I don't get enough carbs and I CAN'T go to long in between meals. I actually tried doing this a couple of times in the past but couldn't stick to it because of HOW I was feeling. I'll need ALL the advice and support I can get.

Welcome Tonya. This is a great place for support and information. You may want to start a new thread to introduce yourself and make it easier for people to respond to you.

Hi all! I am pursuing bioidentical hormones and had a lot of tests run for that. I found out I have flat-line cortisol during the day (and hardly any to start with,) so have been diagnosed as having Adrenal Burnout. I have been directed to begin the Schwartzbein plan. Anybody know anything about that? I bought book II and the cookbook, but it's pretty complicated... tonight I couldn't figure out what to eat, and dinner is generally the only meal I really want to eat. I can foget to eat the other ones, one of the things I have to change. If there is a thread for this, please direct me, I appreciate it. Not sure how to make a sig here, so have a good night all!
