| I have been on LC since the week before new years, and I have been excersizing for the past week and a half. I have noticed that my stomach has gone down and I have lost inches but when I get on the scale, it looks as if my weight either stays the same or goes down 1 or 2 pounds. Why am I not losing any weight? As for excersize I usually walk 1.5 or 2 miles, or I do the walk away the pounds 2 mile dvd. I have been eating eggs, cheese, and bacon for breakfast....Salad with cucumbers, green olives, lettuce, and shees with red vinegar and oil for lunch, and meat with carrots, or string beans and salad for dinner. During the day I do not snack but at night I like to have something sweet...either LC ice cream, or Sugar Free pudding made with low carb milk, or sometimes I eat peanuts....that are lightly salted. As for what I drink during the day, I start off with a 20 ounce coffee with splenda and half and half. I have to have my coffee, especially since I work 6am to 2pm. After that I drink Water, and sometimes diet soda. Please tell me what I am doing wrong, or what I can be doing to help out my weight loss. Thanks |

| Well, it's like this: When you start an exercising program, you build muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, but is more compact, so what is happening is that you may weigh the same, or even more, but are smaller...thus the loss of inches. It's really what you want to happen, 'cause more muscle means not only less body fat, but a more effecient metabolism. As far as your meals, I think you need to add some protein to your lunch besides cheese...maybe some chicken or tuna on your salad? Make sure you're getting enough protein, especially if you're building muscle. And as long as you're losing, the lc ice cream and pudding are ok, but they should be the first to go if you stall. Maybe replace them with a protein snack. But if you're losing steadily, and feeling good, then I think you're just fine. Are you taking supplements? They are a good idea. And keep that water coming; choose it over diet soda always. I use diet soda as a treat only.

| Doing nothing wrong really--if you want something sweet...I would switch to berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc) with whipped cream (NOT Cool Whip) instead of the ice cream or pudding for a little while and see if that helps--if you just started working out you are building muscle and losing fat but remember that muscle weighs more than fat so it is actually possible to show a gain while losing inches. If you make your own whipped cream add just a bit (1/2 - 1 tsp) of unsweetened gelatin to make the whipped cream last longer and stand up in peaks longer in the refridgerator...I can keep it up to a week before it gets too watery to use and starts to taste funny to me if I do that. Be sure you are drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water...that makes a HUGE difference too. not enough water can cause your weight not to come off too. Don't change very much at one time so you know what works and what doesn't...remember too though that it didn't take two weeks to gain the weight and it isn't going to only take two weeks to take it off either!

| Yes...I figured that me not drinking a lot of water was not helping my weight loss. I guess I will try to drink more water and cut out drinking the soda. I forgot to mention that I drink Atkins powered drink mix and also crystal light drink mix too. Is that good or bad? As for snacks at night, what are some good ones that wont stall my weight loss? |

| If aspartame doesn't give you problems, as it does to some people, then the Crystal Light is ok, if you don't overdo. Just be sure to get your full quota of water each day, and then drink the other stuff in addition to that. Aspartame (Equal) causes some people to stall; you might try cutting it out for a while to see if it helps. The suggestion of berries and cream for a nighttime snack is a good one, or maybe a mock danish (in the recipe database). It's filling, sweet, and easy to make. Or maybe deviled eggs, celery with natural peanut or almond butter, or a cup of herbal tea with a little sweetener added. All these things are really an individual choice; whatever works for you, and fits into your plan is the right thing to do. One of the beauties of induction is that it cuts your menu down to the basics, and then adds things one by one; this gives you the opportunity to see what effect each new food has on your loss and your cravings. Also, the fewer "manufactured" foods you eat, i.e. lc ice cream, bars, etc. the better. Natural foods like veggies, lc fruits, meat, cheese and whole grains are better for your health and will eventually taste better to you, too. An occasional treat is ok, but again, only if you still lose and they don't trigger cravings for things you shouldn't have at all. I have also found it helpful to keep my menu varied, 'cause I tend to get bored with the same meals every day. Eat what tastes good to you, but mix it up a bit to keep it interesting.

| Sometimes I have a cup of decaf coffee at night with splenda and half and half. Is that ok? I forgot to mention that I take a multivitamin called carbsmart, daily...I believe it is made by centrum |

| That cup of decalf should be OK...give it a coupe more weeks...let your body adjust to the exercise and new way of eating...try cutting out the drinks besides water and a bit of coffee...if you need more try hot tea...green is my favorite...I have some Salacada with strawberry/orange and it is really good in the evening as a sweet treat though it isn't sweet at all! I eat lots of berries either fresh or frozen with some whipped cream as a sweet treat, I do occasionally have the lc ice cream or bars, but not often...they cause cravings for me...lots of this is trial and error on your part...finding what works for you best and cutting out what doesn't. Other sweet things you may try might be peanut butter--all natural-- and mock danishes. I find that I can often put nuts or other salty snacks there in place of the sweet and be just as happy...an ounce or two of almonds are awesome with a cup of hot tea in the evening or pumpkin seeds...a bit higher in carbs but if they fit my day they are good, sunflower seeds in the shell--they take longer to eat so you don't eat as many and you get almost a chip crunch out of them! Cream cheese is a great item too...mix a bit with cocoa powder and whipped cream and a a packet or two of splenda and it makes a nice chocolate treat that is satisfying and lc kind of like a pudding or mousse type treat! but much lower in carbs and better for you.

| LOL! I'll take inches over pounds, any day. I once told some friends, "I don't want to lose weight." (they're shocked!), "I want to lose VOLUME!" (they laugh).

| That is very good--the inches are what everyone sees unless you are letting everyone look over your shoulder when you step on the scale...and I let NO ONE in my bathroom with me when I am peeking at my weight!
