Smile Hello i'm a new member joined yesterday.

Hello,

My name is Bron? and i come from Ireland.

I joined yesterday and this is my first post. I honestly have'nt a clue about low carb, i have spent most of my life eating low fat food and getting nowhere. I have high cholestrol, i take medication for it but have found that in the past when trying to eat healthy i lowered it some by natural means, for eg, Oatmeal, Garlic and Physillium Husk, i would prefer to keep my cholestrol in check with natural things.
I bought Atkins for Life book but found that our foods here in Ireland are completely different and i think i will become confused when trying to substitute

Can you please tell me where to start, i am 70lbs overweight?
Where can i find foods and menus that i can easily convert?
Can you help me with what i should eat daily and how many carbs i should eat so that i can start loosing weight.
I have not gone around this board yet, i will have loads of time over the weekend to study posts and advice, thank you for your help.

Bron

Welcome Brona' ! What specifically are you having trouble substituting? Atkins induction is meat and high fiber veggies and no more than 20 net carbs per day. Heavy cream is allowed as is cheese up to a limit of 4 ounces per day. If you use www.fitday.com you can get an idea whether a specific vegeatble is allowed. Just deduct thr fiber fitday lists from the carb count they list. As a rule of thumb, try to keep a vegetable serving at 5 grams of NET carbohydrate or less. Feel free to ask specific questions about ingredients and food items. There are some here who aren't metrically challenged (is Ireland metric?). so ask away.

Hi Brona and welcome!

I'm not sure what you can get in Ireland, but if you can get the book "Dr. Atkins New Diet revolution" that one is a little more basic than "Atkins for Life". Also there is a lot of good information at www.atkins.com. Good luck!

Welcome Bronia! Check out the NEwbie stickies...the posts at the very top of the newbie forum you will find most helpful in bridging the gap between Atkins for Life and the Original Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.

Smile Thank you everyone for the warm welcome

Thank you all so much for the welcome.

I'm doing my best to read and take it in but i'm still very nervous about fat.

Through doing low fat all my life i know what carbs are good and bad, is it possible for me to work a diet based on low carbs and not too much fat and still loose weight?

Thank you,

Brona

South Beach approaches the Low Carb lifestyle from a less-fat aproach than Atkins. If you are fat-phobic, maybe you should check out that plan.
