| Hi everyone!!! My name is Veronica and I have been dieting on and off for ....hmmm....since I was 13. I was always chubby as a kid and continue to be so as an adult. I tried Atkins actually when I was 13 and lost 15lbs, which helped me as a competitive swimmer. But then I went to Argentina a few months later and ate to no end. I ended up gaining almost 30 lbs. I was weighing 150lbs coming back from the trip. I got really depressed and ate some more and gained another 15 lbs by the time I was 16. At this point I quit swimming because I was embarrassed about my body. Then one day during my junior year in HS I decided to do Atkins agains and lost 30lbs. I stayed at 140 +/- 5lbs throughout my entire college career. During college I met my fiance, Josh. After we graduated we got engaged and I moved to Philly for my job while he went to Georgia for six month for Army Officer's Training since he was in ROTC and was commissioned. I managed to stay in the same weight range. But once he moved in, it threw me off course. I gained 10 - 12 lbs. I am about to get married and I feel so gross with myself at times. I am trying Atkins again. I was into it 2 days and then I cheated (last night), but now I am back on course this morning. And the reason I didn't give up completely today (even though it was tempting) was because I found this message board and I knew I found the support I needed to stick to it for the long haul. Has anybody tried Induction 3 times or more. If so, has their weight loss has gotten significantly slower each time?

| Veronica - I have only done induction twice. The first time I lost 11 pounds but after losing over 80 pounds I put back 70+ of them. Second and last induction I lost 8 pounds. I wouldn't worry too much about how quickly you lose weight. Slow and steady weight loss is just as good. |

| Veronica: I have done induction twice, and the second time was slower than the first. Just keep in mind that it is a process, and may take awhile. I just try to remember everyday that the choices I make that day are going to help in the long run. I try not to get too wrapped up in the scale. I try to go by how I am feeling, because I always feel better on LC. The weight will come off if I am making good daily choices. Good luck and welcome!

| Veronica, welcome to a good place. This is my 3rd time on induction (I'm a couple weeks past), although I'd have to say the second time was half-hearted. I've never totally abandoned low-carb, I've just let carb creep get a bit out of hand. It usually takes a few stops and starts to get a good habit started, or a bad habit ended. One of the hardest challenges to weight management is relationships. Eating with the man you love...hard to hold back, huh! My husband is our chef, and I have to retrain him constantly. He equates feeding me with loving me, and thinks I'm being deprived if I pass on potatoes and gravy. Fortunately, I've settled on Atkins. That way, we can both enjoy a juicy steak, bacon and eggs, cream sauces, and other gourmet goodies. I just have to keep track of everything on Fitday.com Best wishes this time around. |

| I am really glad to see I am not the only one who fell off the wagon. I, too, started Atkins in January 2003 and lost 80 pounds. Fell off the wagon in June 2004. I don't know how much I gained back ... I am not sure I want to know. All I know is that I don't feel well and want to get back on. I am glad I found this site again. It was this site that helped we do it in 2003 and I am sure it will do it again. Good to see you still around, Rob ... you were my inspiration the first time around!!! |

| Yeah, eating with man you love can be really tough especially since he loves potatoes, pizza, and Haagen Daas Strawberry Cheesecake icecream. I never had this stuff in my cupboards when I was living alone or with roommates. Since January I have been trying to lure him in with low calorie snacks and meals so we can both eat well and he didn't have to give up carbs, but that went bust. We would be going really well from Monday to Thursday and then came the weekend and a "splurge" became a weekend "food orgy" of mexican, pizza, and all the bad stuff. I realized that I have to the lose the weight by my own will and determination, however wavering it may be, and with some help of my new friends. And the only way to lose weight for me has been Atkins.

| This is my 2nd attempt at Atkins. Did a short stint on South Beach, but was never really "feeling it". I am on day #5 of induction and am feeling strong. Wish you luck!! I keep thinking....I love pasta but I loved being a size 8 a lot more!! =) |

| Veronica, now would be a good time to think through how you're going to deal with this difference in eating for, oh, the rest of your lives. I wish I had started 30 years ago curing my DH (dear husband) of his sugar addiction, especially soda pop. Can you say dental bills?? Of course, you can't change another person's behavior. But you can continue to assert your own dietary needs, and not just follow along. One of the most important things we stopped doing is visits to fast food places 2-3 times a week. However, I think sharing a weekend "splurge" might be a good idea. In our case, a good bottle of wine works fine. Pizza's not a bad choice, since you can simply eat the low-carb goodies off the top: cheese, green pepper, pepperoni (in moderation), ground meats, etc. Once you get past induction, Mexican is all right, if you skip the corn products. My DH makes "tostado mountains"--lots of lettuce, black olives, ground beef, some salsa, sour cream, avocado, etc. Also, a moderate amount of refried beans. Count the carbs, and indulge! |

| Rob this question is for you. Seeing that you are male My son wants to start Atkins, he is about 14lbs overweight, he is worried that he will pile on weight, he has just come out of hospital after having a sinus job done and surgeon told him no gym for six weeks. I will help him as much as i can with what i've learned here, actually i've got to plan out his daily foods for induction, what not to eat etc etc, i'm really not looking forward to it at all as it's enough of a job sorting myself out. I read somewhere that males have to take in more calories than females, does that apply to induction too? I'd appreciate any help or tips you can give me if you have time, he is going to shop for all the foods tomorrow. Thanks Rob, Bron?

| gosh! so many newbies in here.. i had to chime in and say hello.. i did induction in january of 2004 and lost about 10lbs..(according to what my husband said it looked like.*L* and then i did it for a few weeks just recently THIS january..and tho i dont weigh myself.. i would say i lost over 5 lbs easily... jeans way loose and some that didnt fit at all fit too... just keep away from the "iffy" stuff.. (the so called LC treats that seem to make people stall..or WORSE gain... and heck.. if youre going to do this.. why would you want to go though all of trouble to GAIN or lose less than you COULD have? ) i have found that a daily mulitple vitamin seems to make a difference too... and water.. NEVER shirk on the water... dont let yourself become TOO hungry.. eat small portions SEVERAL times during the day... MUCH success to you all! kim |

| well it depends on his size. For the most part men can eat more calories than women. But on induction he doesn't need to even look at calories. He should eat until he's full and stick to 20 net cabs per day. |
