Default how much weight should u lose..

Whats the average weight lost in induction? Is it ok if I haven't lost didly squat in the first week? I think I'm just an impatient person but my pants are still tight on me and it's really discouraging and I feel it's not gonna work.

as with everything else... it will vary.

i recall years ago, we had a thread where everyone posted their Induction loss -- i could range from zero to 14 or more.

i think i lost 14. ten the first week and 4 the second. (I was retaining a lot of water)

so, yes, it is just fine if you dont lose anything.

i knew someone who didnt lose anything for an entire month, then it all just melted away.

everyone reacts differently to losing weight.

hang in there -- it will happen.

If you don;t read the book you're less likely to succeed. I saw on another post that you couldn't afford the book. Get a copy from the library. Or cook real food for 3 days instead of those Tv dinners and you'll save enough to get DANDR paperback (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution).

Ditto Rob's advice! You NEED to get the book and read it.

As for the typical amount of weight lost... there *ISN'T* a typical amount.

I will say, however, that some important factors seem to be:
1) How much weight do you have to lose? -- People who need to lose a LOT of weight (say, more than 50 pounds) will often dump a lot of weight during induction.
My first induction, I lost 13 pounds... but I needed to lose 100 pounds.

2) How closely you are following the plan (see why you need to read the book?) -- if you are using a bunch of induction no-no's (like LC bars, LC candy, nuts, diet sodas, LC bread, etc.) then this will certainly keep you from losing.

3) How much water are you drinking? You need to be getting adequate water intake while eating this way. If you are dehydrated in the least, you are definitely affecting your rate of loss!

4) Finally, EVERYONE loses at different rates. Some people have "jack-rabbit starts" where they dump a bunch of weight up front and then level off. Others start slower than snails, but often end up losing more consistently. How your body's metabolism responds to this woe (way of eating) is difficult to predict.

HTH,

I lost more my second induction but my first was not Atkins induction but a different lc plan.

I also suggest the library. That is what I did when I first started then I saved and went to Wal-Mart where the book was $5.97 in paperback. But the library is a great resource not just for the Atkins book but so many others.

Your losses will vary so much from other people's it's hard to gauge. Maybe you are not eating correctly, it's hard to "wing it" if you don't have the correct information.

This board is always a helpful and friendly place, but we value sincerity, and we respect the important lifestyle changes that Atkins (or any lifetime weight maintenance program) requires.

You've named yourself "Iwantacupcake" which sounds like a person who is going to have a hard time with the discipline of this or any other commitment to long-term corrections, not just a quick fix. On Atkins, we pretty much live without cupcakes, even the so-called "low-carb" kind.

Hope you'll get the Atkins book, or another Low-carb lifestyle book of your choice, and see what you're up against. One of the important transitions is learning to purchase and cook whole foods, not food substitutes like manufactured sweets, munchies, and snack bars. Those labels are designed to tempt you, not to inform you.

Ditto to all of the above. I found DANDR at Walmart too and picked up a copy for my DD. It's a cheap paperback. You HAVE to read the book..........it's your roadplan and will help you understand why this WOL works.

As for average induction losses.............that varies WILDLY from individual to individual. I only lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks in the beginning, but I persevered and am almost at goal now. And I followed the plan in the book to the T.

The thing is I've done this diet before doing what I'm doing now and I lost weight so I don't know what the deal is. I guess I'm gonna have to get the book. *sigh* And my name "iwantacupcake" is just a joke it doesn't mean I have a problem with discipline. geez. Who doesn't want a cupcake? LOL, yanno, just the THOUGHT of a cupcake gives me indigestion now. I would say that most of the vets on the board here would NOT want a cupcake. (unless of course it's LC)

GOOD I'm glad to hear you are going to get the book. But then promise me you will READ the book too!!!! The words won't jump off the page and into your brain.

OH and Wanta....post a typical couple of days menus for us so we can see what you are eating.

breakfast: 2-3 eggs, 2 sausage
lunch: small salad with ranch dressing w/ boiled eggs or I'll eat the meat and cheese off a sandwich cause I'm at school and don't have much of a selection
dinner: a low carb tv dinner, skinless chicken or a meat patty with green beans
snack: string cheese and a couple of strawberries

And also I've been drinking a diet soda almost every day and probably only about 40 oz of water a day, and not really any exercise so I guess that could be my problem. I've been doin good though with no extra low carb snacks. But I'm goin to wal mart tonight hopefully I can get the book.
