You should be eating only whole, natural foods during induction. There are 4 phases to Atkins - the Induction, OWL, premaintanance and Maintenance. This is a plan for life, you start adding back in some carbs during OWL, but should never go back to the full carb eating done pre-Atkins.

You really need to get the book to understand the Plan. You can get information from here, and from www.atkins.com - but the book is really your source for the plan and you need to read it.

Well I'm too poor to afford the book, sorry. So chicken isn't whole and natural? Is something wrong with low carb tv dinners? :/

Where I live the stores carry a 'Life Choice' brand of lc TV dinners. They have meat loaf, chicken somethinorother and turkey. Mainly meat and either green beans or cauliflower with a little cheese melted on top. I keep a few in the freezer as a backup or for busy days. They average somewhere around 12-15 carbs each.

Buy real food...not processed, precooked, etc...you will feel better and eat better and it is much cheaper!

It's not that chicken isn't whole and natural, but I have had those dinners and some of them (most of them) have a gravy or a sauce on the meat, and you don't know what all is in the sauce. If you read the labels you'll see that there are additives in there, maybe even some hidden sugars, so I would save those for later on. For induction, try sticking to quick meals you can make at home. Get some chicken leg quarters, or just a package of chicken thighs and drumsticks, and bake them in the oven with olive oil and italian seasoning. Dark meat chicken is much cheaper than chicken breasts, and IMO has better flavor and doesn't dry out. Fix some salads. Get the Perdue Short Cuts (precut, precooked chicken breast strips), some romaine lettuce, some grated parmesan, and some full-fat creamy caesar dressing (I prefer Newman's Own, it is low in carbs), cut up the chicken strips, and romaine and put in a bowl or container with a lid, add the grated parmesan, add the caesar dressing, cover the bowl and shake vigorously. Voila! Quick and easy chicken caesar salad. Or cook your own chicken and cut it up for the salad (may be cheaper than the Short Cuts package).

LC frozen dinners are between $2 and $5 each. A mass-market paperback copy of DANDR is $7.99 list price, and I'll bet Wal-Mart has it for less than that. For the price of 2 LC dinners you can buy the book. Just in case you change your mind about buying the book.

Stop eating TV dinners and buy real food and with the savings you can buy the book! Or go to your local library. I am sure they have it...

I tried one of the Life Choices dinners. IMHO I thought it was too little food for too much money and not all that tasty.

I wait and buy chicken breasts on sale for $1.99/lb and grill my own chicken.
