Exclamation Newbies and the books

There are lots and lots of questions on here which can easily be answered by the Atkins book New Diet Revolution. I've seen several posts regarding not being able to afford the book, and not being able to find the book because of location.

I don't want to seem unkind, but if you are on this board, you have internet access, and if you have internet access, you can go to www.atkins.com. This website has most, if not all the information in the book, a lot of it word for word. Please go there and begin educating yourself on this wonderful way of eating. You will not succeed by "winging it" and by asking questions on the boards only. It is important ot understand the why and how of this way of eating or it will not work for you long term. Don't guess; instead, learn, and know.

This board is a wonderful, marvelous place for support, and for asking others what works for them in their low carb journey. It is not intended to nor can it replace the book on the plan of your choice!!!

Good luck to everyone!!

Exactly! Most books are out in paperback and can be found in used book stores and WalMart pretty cheap. Also, there are some in your local library. As Barb always says:

Well said Renee!!!!! Before I got my book, I relied HEAVILY on the Atkins website. I read everything till I couldn't see straight. But I DID get the book and I'm so glad I did. Everyone needs to get the book of their plan choice!!!!! It's a roadmap.

well, to put it in perspective...

i tried low carb twice. the first time, no book, relying on what other's told me. i lasted 2 weeks and lost 12 pounds.

the second time, i got the book first, read up, and got prepared. it was a year last november 16, and i've lost 108 pounds.

which result would you prefer?

I'm one of those people that needs to read, hear and take notes to learn. In college, simply reading the book wasn't enough. Neither was a lecture. To this day, I have trouble listening if I'm not taking notes. I even doodle on my napkins when sonly and I go out to dinner! LOL

I've found that Atkins, like college, works best if I read about, discuss it (on this site) and track my foods (writing). I've read the book twice. I've forgotten a ton of stuff that I read. Despite that, I did have more things stick in my brain after the second reading. In a couple months I'm going to read it through a third time.

I learned a lot from DANDR. It has medical information that (if nothing else) lends weight to any low carb conversation. Even when my husband asked me about diabetes (my family has a history which is a great reason to be here), I was able to explain to him how insulin and blood sugar worked and I think he felt a lot more comfortable about this decision.

There is a lot more information in there then I would have even thought to ask about.

See that's the thing Renee..........when you read a book about this, you are educated on why this works. I can explain it at the drop of a hat now. There's just no replacement for gaining the knowledge you need to understand this WOL.

I've read the book several times. I find I "learn" something new with each reading. Either something I forgot or missed the first time round.
