Oh, how cheep I am.
Well, if it's just about the money, you could borrow the book from the library. Or, again, the atkins website has a lot of information about the food plan and related issues (explanations of why and how the 4 different phases of the diet work, pitfalls to avoid, exercise requirements, nutritional supplements, strategies for success). There's far more to know than any reasonably sized pamphlet could hold... and knowledge is power, they say.

Welcome Colette!!! You can get the paperback book for about six bucks at Walmart!!!! Get thee to the store NOW!!!

I would talk to your doctor ASAP about getting back on vitamins. Did he have an issue with iron??? I can't imagine a doctor taking someone off of vitamins. B-complex is WONDERFUL for energy!!! Ask your doc about that too.

And by all means, dump the frankenfoods..........bars, etc. I think they are messing with your blood sugar.........watch the sugar alcohols and glycerine.

Hello goddess,
Sorry I took so long getting back to you. I was in the hospital. Ok now though. I agree, I will invest in the book. I'm a B&N Club member, so I can even get a small discount.

I will try Walmart, but just in case they don't have it. I will go to B&N. I have a discount card with them. BTW, which book would you recommend of Atkins for Vegetarians. I eat soy and tofu, etc. No meat. I've also thought about cutting out fish...although Salmon is my favorite. :bear:

I don't know that Atkins has a "Vegetarian" book out per se, but I'm sure you could sub any meat recipe they have with tofu. Check out www.atkins.com and do a search on "vegetarian recipes" and see if you can hit on any. If you can avoid it, I wouldn't give up fish, especially Salmon!!! It's got such GOOD omega fatty acids in it. Have you ever added any flaxmeal to your repertoire? It's great in all kinds of stuff and adds a nice nutty flavor. You can also get flaxoil in health food stores and add that to any salad dressing.

Sorry to hear you were in the hospital. I hope everything is okay for you now. Did you ask your Dr. about vitamins?

Are you a strict Vegan or do you do things like eggs and cheese too?

I don't know how your Doc feels about soy products, but I've been hearing a lot of buzz about it slowing the thyroid down lately. You might want to have your doctor monitor your thyroid and your thyroxin output. Just something to be aware of.

Hi Barb keith,
I thought originally I had food poisoning when I ate fish before being sent to emergency...it was a white fish...cooked well....but frozen, not fresh. So that's why I'm sort of cautious right now about fish, although the problem was a lot more serious. I did not ask about the vitamins yet because I will be seeing my regular doctor Wednesday.
I've been mostly a strict vegan (I guess that's what you call it). I do not care for cheeses of any kind or milk. I've eaten an egg here and there since the beginning of the Atkins diet though...but mostly eat scrambled tofu.
Colette
