Smile New To Low Carb.. 17 year old kid trying to lose some weight :-D

Hello everyone,

This is my frist post on this website .

Im 17 years old, a boy, and weigh about 187 :(

I play football and i also wanted to play a postion which im to heavy for ( safety )

I tried many things, working out, low cal, etc...

But not to long ago i heard people doing low carb and lost a lot of weight FAST..

So i surfed the net trying to find out how this works, but im not sure how many carbs im allowed to eat.. and i just checked a mayonise bottle and it had 0 carbs... does that mean i can put that on my food?

Also am i allowed to drink milk?

Also does working out help out a lot?

I just really need to know the basic's and ill be good

I strongly suggest you look over at www.atkins.com to get a better idea about eating low carb. If you decide that low carb is for you, you really should invest in a book such as Atkins New Diet Revolution, Protein Power or perhaps The South Beach Diet.

Eating low carb is not intended as a quick fix but rather a complete eating makeover. As it does not appear that you have a significant amount of weight to lose, do not expect the pounds to drop all that quickly.

Welcome, AJ.

Let me first admit that I'm a mom and my two boys are grown and out on their own. There is nothing wrong with you wanting to adopt a lower carb way of eating. It's a healthier way to live.

For a young man of your age, that means cutting out junk food, sugar and refined flour ... and everything made out of them. That's it. Lots of meats, fruits, veggies and whole grains. No soda, donuts, chips etc.

It's not wise for a 17 year old to be trying to lose weight "fast." You need a balanced diet and the exercise you seem to already be doing.

OK, I'll stop lecturing ....

You ARE welcome here, AJ, but to do anything other than what I've described, you ought to have your parents and doctor on board.

Hi aj,
Welcome to LCE Yes, regular cow's milk in any form, 1%, 2%, or full fat has quite a few carbs; around 13-16 per cup, depending on the brand you choose.
Lots of folks here drink the reduced carb dairy beverages such as Hood Carb Countdown. Also, you might want to check out some of the soy slender milks; while I personally do not care for soy milk, it works well for some folks.
Try to incorporate calcium rich dairy in the form of cheese, cottage cheese, and reduced carb yogurts. Just start reading the labels and that will tell you alot.

I also would really encourage you to have your parents and family doctor involved with your decision to do low carb. And I can't stress enough, educate yourself on how to do low carb PROPERLY; then it will be safe and effective. And ditto what Maggie said...'cause I'm a mom too!

Good luck to you!

Shelley

aj,

no food is "bad" as long as eaten/drank in moderation.
