| This is day 6 of induction for me and I haven't had any cravings in a while... But today I am craving things. I want something sweet... but I also want something salty... I just want to snack for some reason and I haven't felt like this since I started. I am at work right now... but I seriously thinking about hopping in the car and going to the Grocery Store across the street. If I were to go across the street, what can I eat thats a low card snack that will really not have any carbs or sugar in it? I had eggs with cheese and sugar free bacon this morning and a baked chicken breast with garlic and butter along with a cup of broccoli and cauliflower mix. I had a 16 ounce cup of decaf coffee with three splendas and a little half and half. I have had about 50 oz of water today. I am doing well I think for the day.... but I need a snack!!!! Help! | Do they sell any prepackaged salads or have a salad bar? How about celery and cream cheese?

| Hmmm... when you're on induction & at work, it's kind of tough! But you need to stay strong. This is *temporary* and if you can make it through today, I'm sure you will be mentally better tomorrow. Just when you think you've got those cravings licked... yanno -- and this is just a thought -- those 3 Splendas MIGHT be causing these cravings! Three seems a little much to me. Maybe start weaning yourself down to 1? Tomorrow, try just using 2 in your coffee. Do that for a couple of days and then take it down to 1. There is a pretty good theory out there that even if your brain just *senses* that you ate something *sweet* (whether it has calories/carbs or not), it can trigger a rise in insulin & cause cravings. So I would definitely back off the artificial sweeteners! As for an emergency snack? Well, it's not the best choice, but if they have some beef jerky...? YES, I *KNOW* it is high in sodium and nitrates, but in an *EMERGENCY*, it's better than breaking down & buying something way off-plan! Another option would be some cheese -- but not too much. Cheese, in large quantities can stall you! Sorry I'm not more help,

| I virtually would NOT have made in through induction had it not been for stuffed olives... had some with jalapenos that were out of this world and helped with the "salty" cravings. I would not have more than 5 at a time with a total no more than 10 per day and NOT every day. Drink plenty of water tho... that is very important. Also, when I did have some type of craving, I would force myself to have a glass of water first. Wait ten minutes or so and then see if you are still having that craving. Good luck on the last days of your induction... it does get better! |

| a small handful of nuts, eaten slowly, might help. They have protein and fat that will satisfy you - you just need to be careful with nuts, because they are very nutritionally dense, so they are very easy to over-eat. Almonds are usually a very good choice. BTW, some people find that the COFFEE makes them hungry. I don't know why that is, but just a thought. |

| Cool whip is not the best choice for any portion of a low carb eating plan. It is mostly unacceptable sweeteners, trans-fatty acids, and air. A better approach is to whip some cream and use that.

| correction: I see that nuts are not allowed on induction! I didn't realize that - induction was a long time ago for me. Sorry! |

| I'm with Summer and the jerky or slim jims. And Olives absolutely SAVED me during induction. And drink LOTS of water while eating this. Save the nuts for after you are done with induction.

| I agree with Summer on the Splenda. Did you know that Splenda packets are 1 carb EACH? I believe they can cause cravings simply because they TASTE like something sweet. Your body can be triggered by it even though it isn't actually regular sugar. Try to cut back a little on that and see if it helps. Ditto on staying clear of cool whip! A very unhealthy, fake food. REAL whipped cream is wonderful just make sure you don't eat too much. On induction, cream should be limited to about 3-4 tablespoons. That's roughly 1/4 cup. Whipped, it would probably be about 2/3 to 3/4 of a cup.

| MMMMMmmm, homemade whipped cream. Whip it up in a FROZEN glass or metal bowl and you're done in 5 mins. Quick and easy. If you whip it too long, it will turn into butter, which if that happens, USE it for butter!!!! (The whey will separate out, which you can just drain off.)
