Just wondering if Bacon is good for Induction. I read on the package that it is cured in Sugar...So how could that be good for Induction?

Also is it important to have veggies in the morning? Will I notice a bigger weight loss?
Thanks,

Scott,
You can find bacon that is cured without sugar or nitrites, usually in health food stores. There are some major brands that are lower than others; you just have to read the labels and make good choices.
Processed and cured meats, in general, should not be a major part of your diet anyway, for health reasons. Just too many additives and fillers in most of them. An occasional breakfast with bacon, or using it as a flavor ingredient in food is ok, I think. I, personally, love bacon, salami, pepperoni, etc. but try to keep them to a minimum for the above reasons.
As far as eating veggies for breakfast, well, it is a good way to make sure you get enough veggies for the day, but I don't think it's essential. I add peppers, onions, artichokes, mushrooms, even sauteed zuchinni to omlettes. During induction, you should try to stick to the recommended amounts of veggies, but when you move on to OWL, adding veggies is a great way to up your carbs. They add fiber to your diet, and a variety of nutrients. Plus, they just taste good! I'm not sure they will make you lose more, but they will make you healthier.

Scott, I find I do better all day if I include a serving of veggie at breakfast. Often, it's left over veggies from the night before. Here's a good veggie addition to breakfast:

Simple Spinach "Bread"

1 box of frozen spinach, thawed and well drained (save the liquid for soup)
4 eggs
seasonings as desired (salt, pepper, garlic, italian seasoning, real bacon bits, etc.)

Mix well, pour into a well-greased 8x8 square pan or a pie pan. Sprinkle the top with parmesan cheese, if desired. Bake at 400 for 12 to 15 minutes.

This is a good make ahead dish, as it keeps well and is great rewarmed.

I experimented a month or so ago with eating lots of bacon. I'd cooked up a half a package, thinking I'd use just one piece or two per day. HAHA, I ate it all in 24-hours, and I didn't lose ~any~ weight. In fact, I gained weight (not that it should have surprised me).

No and no.

It's important to have vegetables throughout the day but, personally, I don't think the time at which you eat them determines a larger weight loss.

As far as pork products go, if you eat them, read labels and make sure they have little or no sugar.

I don't eat much pork. It makes me retain water and I simply don't care for the taste of it. I've done well steering clear of it, and I opt for fish, fowl, and beef, instead.

My two cents.......

I LOVE bacon ... like the dog in that "Beggin Strips" commercial!

But for all of that, I usually save bacon for Sunday morning. I love the smell of bacon frying and coffee brewing, but I want to savor it.

I like regular old Oscar Mayer.

Eat bacon. Lots of bacon. Mmmmmm... I did this morning.

I don't mind traces of sugar in my bacon. I don't understand how people can get excited about a teeny weeny bit of sugar but turn a blind eye to all the hidden carbs in fake low-carb products that WILL blow your diet. Bacon causes me no problems at all.

Bacon gets a great big thumbs up from me. Hoffy brand is my favorite.

Look for "Gualtney" brand bacon.. it says right on the front "no sugar"...Also, be careful if you eat sausage. It made my cholesterol go up, but once I had it only once or twice a month, I had no problems. Sausage has a very high fat content.

Thanks....I will stick with my swiss cheese omelettes for breakfast at work then. I cannot read the package of the bacon, because it is from the cafeteria where I work, so who knows what brand they use...

I've been eating bacon from the beginning, 3-4 slices with 2 eggs unless I have a Mexican omelette(filled with taco meat, cheese, and lots of good veggies). I've lost 70 pounds and my cholesterol levels have gone down.

Thumbs up Re: Is Bacon good for Induction

Anytime you cure a meat, there is going to be a trace amount of sugar involved. Like Dr. V., I'd prefer that over a bunch of processed LC products. We have one thick slice of bacon about 5 days a week, sometimes with eggs, and sometimes with cream cheese rolled up inside. YUM! That is my fave!Once in a while I'll make a cobb salad with chopped bacon on it as a garnish. I use a brand called Beeler's which is minimally processed and contains no nitrites. The higher up the food is on the food chain, the more organic and less processed we try to eat. It is a bit more expensive, but I think worth it.

As with any food, moderation is the key, IMO. I could eat three pieces a day easily, but I just don't.

Bacon good.

I have bacon maybe twice a month. I, like Maggie, would be that dog in that commercial. "Iiiiiiiiiiit's BACon!!!!!!" BUT, I limit myself because I know it is so processed and I can't afford the really expensive, no nitrate stuff. So I limit it. But before LC, I used to NEVER eat it. So I'm a happy camper that I can have it. (I never used to eat ANY fatty foods..........and look where it got me............FAT!!! )

I would say eat green watery veggies whenever the heck you want.
