| Hello, I was wondering if a LC lifestyle is good for kids. Mine are 4 & 7 and pretty well eat anything that is put in front of them (lucky me!), they are a healthy weight and play hard, no video games and not a lot of TV/computer. I don't remember reading anything any at all about LC and Kids, did I miss something in DANDR? Anyhow, now that DH has committed to LC and won't be eating "white" foods should I still provide my kids with pasta and rice and such? What is the best way for us adults to do Atkins without puting our kids on a diet? do they need starchy carbs? or is fruits and veggies fine? Is there a level of carbs that children should not go below? Seems like a dumb question, but I really don't want stunt thier growth or damage development. Is there a nutritionist out there? |

| DANDR states you will be doing your kids a favor if you cut out the "white" and processed foods. I only wish my kids would've been younger when I stated this WOE. They're not overweight but they are so addicted to sugar. I feel like I'm poisoning them when I buy stuff like cereal and mac n cheese. As far as I can tell, potatoes, rice, pasta, and all processed foods are not a health requirement for children. If you feed them healthy fruits and vegetables, meats, and whole grains they'll get more health benefits than most kids.

| Good advice. Just remove the sugar and white flour and let them eat their fill of a variety of good nutritious whole foods and, since they're active, they should be just fine.

| My daughter eats just like we do...occasionally I add in a potato or some rice and even more occasionally mac and cheese...she is only 9 but she asks less and less now after a year and 4 months of htis way of eating. She loves broccoli with cheese and cauliflower and baby carrots and cucumbers with Italian dressing...beans, corn and peas as well as meat and we limit the sugar and she gets enough at school...I am glad to be showing her the healthy way to eat and cook...and she is growing just fine (4 inches in the last year) and she is active and never seems to run out of energy...swimming 5X a week and gymnastics as well as playing outside with her friends and at recess at school...I see no drawbacks to her eating with us...including the healthy grains and whole wheat bread we have switched to!
