Default Not new but renewed

I have been gone a looong time. I gained all my weight back that I had originally lost (25 lbs.). At least I didn't gain more.
I just can't bring myself to go back to Atkins induction. Now my DH has decided to start some sort of diet so we agreed to follow South Beach, mostly.
Like most men he has lost alot already, 13 lbs. in 10 days. I have only lost 3 lbs. in that 10 days but I haven't been as strict as him either.
I have also decided to wake up my kefir grains that have been frozen since Nov. 2003. I will keep those that are interested updated on that process in the caveman forun.

I hope to stay with it for the long haul this time. I guess the slow lose will hopefully mean it will stay off longer (forever).

Pam

Hi Pam - I too am a Canadian! I see you are moving though. I live close to Edmonton. I just joined this board and would love to start a weekly challenge thread. I am 53 yrs. old and it is getting harder and harder to drop the weight. I am 5:3" - and here are my stats 145/138/120. I want to achieve my weight by June - totally doable if I stick to it.

I hear you on the weight loss for our men. Mine loses very quickly while I have to work for each one.

What are kefir grains?

I plan on doing a modified Atkins and then I want to switch over to South Beach. My sis did South Beach and lost about 20 lbs.

I would love support - thanks!

Glad to have you back, Pam. It's tough to re-start after having gained the weigh back. (I restarted Atkins induction yesterday) But hopefully with DH being on board South Beach will work out well for you. Three pounds in ten days sounds great to me. (Those men do have the advantage when it comes to that) I'm sure you'll be back in the swing of things on no time.

Welcome back to the boards, Pam! As you figured out, maintenance is the hard part! Sorry you gained it back, but the fact that you did not gain more is fantastic. Helps to really start thinking of Atkins, or South Beach, as a way of life.

And Jas, welcome, too! I plugged your numbers into my handy calculator. If you wish to lose 18 pounds by June 1 . . . that's over 2.5 pounds per week. Atkins, South Beach, whatever, that's a lot of weight to lose so quickly. Kudos to you if you can do it! I just worry that you may be disappointed if your loss is a little slower, especially with only 18 pounds to lose. Good luck and please post often and let us know how you are doing!

Welcome back

I totally understand where you're coming from, been there, done that.

A short version of my story goes like this...

- Started lc in 2001

- Got to 152 (12 pounds from goal) in dec. 2002

- went on vacation the next week (for 3 weeks) and gained 20 back

- got home jan 2003 and was pissed with myself!

- so, I gained ANOTHER 40 back

Great plan, eh? Gain 20 and get mad at yourself so then gain 40 more. Brilliant!

So, I went from 240 to 215 on lowfat and 215 to 152 on lowcarb and then back to 215 like an idiot. 2003 was NOT my best year.

But, it gets better. I lost 15 pounds last year (2004) and started this year off at 200. I'm now at 196. It's going slow but it's GOING.

Good luck and hang in there

gsdfriend - I have pm'd you.

Marcie - I can relate - although mine were done in little increments but nevertheless, it sucks but I am taking charge.

KCtinter - Just wondering if you ladies have a daily challenge thread?
