Smile Total Newbie Here....Any Advice??

I have no clue what eating low-carb is or means, lol. But I do know that I've been gaining quite a bit of weight in the past couple of years and am ready to make a change in my life to lose my belly! hehehe Can anyone offer me some advice as to what I should be eating throughout the day to avoid too many carbs?

Thanks,
Carlos

Carlos, you're welcome to hang out here and learn what you can. However, getting educated about various eating plans and choosing the one that's right for you involves more than a short answer. Please explore all the links on this site.

If you want to learn about the granddaddy of Low-carb eating plans, pick up a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. Or visit www.atkins.com

You'll also find discussion about other low-carb plans on this forum, such as South Beach, Carb Addicts, and Neanderthin. Each of these has a complete description in its own book or website.

Laura Richard's book "The Secret to Low Carb Success" explains and compares several low-carb plans.

There's no substitute for doing your own research. Good luck!

Welcome, Carlos.

Ditto what Barb said! Check out the various plans and find one that is the best "fit" for you, then go for it. We'll be here along the way.

Welcome Carlos! As much as you would like a quick fix with a list of low carb foods to eat, this really won't help in the long run without learning HOW and WHY low carb works. For that you really do need the book for whichever plan you choose. Barb's advice is right on. Go to the library and check out a bunch of books. That will save some $$ while you investigate the different plans. Once you decide, do buy the book. You will want it on hand!

Good luck and please visit often.

carlos- welcome, and congratulations on your decision to address your weight. that's a wonderful start.

i don't think you'll find anybody here who disagrees with the fine advice you've already gotten: choose a plan, buy the book and read it!

i like to point out that i've tried low-carb twice: once by just asking about it, like you're doing now. i lasted 2 weeks and lost 12 pounds. not bad, but...the second time, i got the book, read it cover to cover, and got prepared. i've been lc'ing since nov, 2003 and have lost 108 pounds. best $6.95 i've ever spent in my life, guarenteed.

good luck to you!

Thankyou everyone for the wonderful support and advice. :O)

Alida - I like the idea you and goddess have offered about going and getting books to help me out with deciding which plan I want to be on and which suits me and my lifestyle best. Love the idea of going to check out book at the library! My favorite place to go to! LOL So far I've been just eating alot of protein..Guess that's called the Atkins? Well, I have felt more energy and feel a little slimmer even after one day, but that may just be all in my head? hehehe Glad to be here with all of you at any rate. Nice to know you're not alone when battling the bulge, so to speak, lol...

Best Wishes :O),
Carlos

carlos- well, " a lot of protien" isn't exactly all there is to atkins, but you are starting out moving in the right direction. i would suggest you start eliminating sugar from your diet, avoid white flour, and drink lots and lots of water while you are going through the process of educating yourself. then, when you are ready to start your selected plan, you'll be in a much stronger position to get going and may get to avoid nasty sugar withdrawls, too.

good luck to you!
