    Default Senokat Orange

I am still not very regular at all, despite eating flax seeds in a regular basis and include one tablespoon a day of wheat bran into my foods. I went to the pharmacy the other day and bought some Senokat Orange drink. I checked and it is gluten and sugar free. Does anyone else take this? You are supposed to take 2 a day I have been taken them for two days and still waiting.

If you mean Senokot, then you are talking about a laxative. Laxatives are very irritating to the colon and, over time, can cause a kind of dependence. The colon gets so far from it's normal function that one needs laxatives to stimulate any action. Fiber is, by far, the better alternative.

If you're eating a good amount of flax & bran & plenty of green leafy vegetables and still not regular, I'd look first to how much water you're getting each day - particularly in conjunction with the fiber. Fiber needs lots of water to act effectively. Without really good water intake, throughout the day, but especially taken at times when you're ingesting the fiber, it cannot pass easily through the colon. It can have the opposite effect of what you're seeking.

Thanks Maggie, I will up my water to see if it makes a difference. I had a look at this product and it does seem to be made up of fibre, I don't think it contains senna. Here is the info for the product:
    Fybogel Orange Natural Fibre Drink
Gently relieves constipation and maintains regularity
Fybogel Orange high fibre drink is an easy and pleasant tasting way to increase the
fibre in your diet helping your digestive system work more efficiently and gently
relieving constipation the natural way. As it works naturally with your body it takes
care of constipation without undue straining, discomfort or unnatural urgency, helping
    to restore and maintain regularity.
WHY SHOULD I TAKE FYBOGEL ORANGE?
A lack of fibre in the diet is one of the main causes of bowel irregularity. Fybogel
Orange is high in natural fibre which will help you to restore and maintain your bodys
regularity. Fybogel Orange is also recommended wherever increased fibre is needed
in your diet to help relieve constipation ? this includes constipation during pregnancy
or when breastfeeding. It is also recommended to help maintain a normal bowel
function among patients suffering from any of the following conditions: irritable bowel
syndrome; colostomy or ileostomy; haemorrhoids (piles); anal fissure; persistent
diarrhoea associated with diverticular disease; ulcerative colitis.
DO NOT TAKE FYBOGEL ORANGE IF:
Your doctor has told you that you are suffering from a blockage of the bowel
(intestinal obstruction or faecal impaction) or muscle weakness of the bowel wall
(colonic atony), or your doctor has told you that you have phenylketonuria, because
the product is sweetened with aspartame, or you are allergic to any of the
    ingredients.
    WHAT SIDE EFFECTS MAY OCCUR?
Due to the increased fibre intake of your diet you may experience flatulence or
bloating during the first few days of taking Fybogel Orange. These effects should
lessen as you continue to take Fybogel Orange. If you find these symptoms
particularly troublesome you can take just one dose of Fybogel Orange for a few
days. If you have any other symptoms after taking this product, tell your doctor or
    pharmacist.
HOW TO PREPARE FYBOGEL ORANGE DRINK:
Fill a glass with approximately 150ml (1/4 pint) of cold water. Add the required
amount (see dosage below). Stir well and drink straight away.
    DOSAGE:
Adults and children over 12: 2 level 5ml spoonfuls of Fybogel Orange in the morning,
and evening, or as prescribed by your doctor.

    size.
Children under 6 years: To be taken only on medical advice, ? - 1 level 5ml spoonful,
depending on age and size, morning and evening. Do not take Fybogel Orange
    without water.

your doctor. Do not take more Fybogel Orange than directed. Store dry below 30?C.

Oh, right. That's just psyllium husks, same as Metamucil and that ilk. I hadn't realized the company had expanded its line to pure fiber. So this certainly isn't harmful to your body.

BTW, you can probably buy psyllium (ispaghula) husks in the drug store, found alongside all the brand-names, at a much lower price.

I have never had a problem of being irregular while on this WOE, but one thing that will always do the trick is taking a Cal/mag/zinc in the evening.

one dose is 3 caplets, so sometimes i will up it to 4 -- and that (the magnesium) will clean ya out in the AM.

Also, with the money you save on buying the generic, you can also get some orange extract. A few drops of that, plus a bit of artificial sweetener, would probably get you the same "refreshing orange flavour" for a lot less.

I sneak ground flaxseed into the family's food all the time. For example, tonight I made "chili" : ground turkey, black beans, Picante V-8, cumin, chile powder, pepper, and a can of diced tomatoes w/green chilis.......and about 2/3 cup of flaxseed meal. Thickens it up and DH has no idea he just upped his fiber intake for the day!

I also buy store brand psyillum husk fiber powder. It's cheap and a little dab will do ya! I add it to shakes and smoothies. I've put it in Lowcarb Peanutbutter Fudge! And added a nut crust. There are now fondly called my "Regularity Bars". LOL!

i also use fiberfit as a sweetener in my coffee and for other things, along with the occassional fiber supplement, which i find very helpful.

(i also find that having my thyroid meds at the proper dosage helps, but this probably doesn't apply to your situation.)

    hope it improves for ya!
