Default Question for you!

Ok if I am getting the gist of this woe I need the right amount of protein but more fat than protein ? My thing is how do I figure out what I need in the fat department-some say 70 % fat 35% protein and 5 or 10 % carbs I'm in my second week of induction and I do believe I lost it somehow over the weekend I was doing really well had lost 5 pounds but nothing for the last few days -I had to go shopping Saturday and I shop an hour away from my home so it takes me all day to shop but I did manage to get all my water in that day so right now I am 140 pounds 5'4 I'm not very good at using fitday so that is what is confusing me I think thanks all Rita

I may be mistaken (so often am!) but I don't recall anywhere in DANDR that stresses getting a certain percentage of your calories from fat or anything else.

If you're staying within your daily carb limit, eating ALL allowed veggies, and eating reasonable but filling portions of protein, that sounds like the sum total of what you should be worrying about on induction.

Also, I would really recommend - for your own "mental health" - that you weigh only once a week! The daily weight fluctuations we are all prone to can be downright depressing, and cause you to lose faith and "fall off the wagon."

I haven't read your previous posts here, so forgive me for asking, but have you read DANDR cover to cover? I think you'll be a lot more confident and clear up your confusions if you do that.

or try the official Atkins site: http://www.atkins.com

They now have online resources that can help!

Best wishes to you...Andrea

I would not get too hung up on percentages of anything, as long as you are following the plan in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. Follow it to the letter, drink your water, and weigh once a week or twice a month. I find if I get too anal about things, it can stall me, or at the very least, make my life more complicated so that I don't want to stay on the WOE. This way of eating should simplify your life, not complicate it. I didn't use Fitday for the entire first year I was on Atkins. I could tell you exactly how many carbs I had each day (using the carb counter in the back of DANDR and food labels) but I couldn't have told you how many calories, how much fat, etc. I still lost a lot of weight and felt great! The WOE is strcutured so that you really don't have to pay attention to anything but carbs, at least in the beginning. Keep it simple, and good luck!

The way I do it is to first and foremost determine the net carbs I can have for OWl. You are still in induction so that number is 20. Then I determine my minimum protein requirement. There are numerous protein calculators including This One . Then fat falls where it falls. The lower your net carb allowance is the higher the fat % generally is.
