laxative question

"Low Carb Newbies" at Low Carb Diet Support: "I have started atkins. Am experiencing problems w/ constipation. I have looked at all the fiber products and the carb contents are too high for me to consider taking. Please help....."

i use flaxseed... and the fiber pretty much offsets the carb count...

if not... somebody correct me...;-)

Welcome, radioheart.

Psyllium is what Atkins recommends. Remember, the total carbs on a label INCLUDES fiber. You can deduct the fiber (which is listed separately.) So for something like psyllium (the ingredient in unflavored Metamucil) or flax meal, after you deduct the fiber, the carb count is zero or very close to it.

Is flax seed no carb? And what isle would I find that in? Thank you for the suggestion. I will try it if it is carb-free.

If your supermarket carries Bob's Red Mill products, it will probably be in the baking isle. If not, you can find flax seed or flax meal at most health food stores.

Psyllium you can find in ANY drugstore.

also any time you take any kind of fiber, be sure to drink your water! it will actually complicate the issue if you don't take water with it.
