Question Bread? No bread during Induction?????

I was re-reading the 2005 Two-Week Induction Meal Plan from the Adkins website and I'm really confused by something I read there.

In the second paragraph at the top of the page it states how important it is to avoid "trigger foods" such as BREAD or sweet tasting items.

However, the first sample breakfast menu listed on the page includes one slice Adkins Bakery Multigrain Bread, net carb grams 3, along with two scrambled eggs and three slices of Canadian Bacon.

So is it okay to eat the Adkins bread during Induction or not? I have some of it in the freezer and would use it, if I were sure it's okay. (I know I can't have "regular bread.)

Anyone have an answer to my question - Bread or no bread during Induction??????????

Thanks,

Cindy

well, you can technically go by what you read in the book...except, i would not suggest any bread during induction. some folks feel (and myself is included) that akins plan became somewhat compromised when they began marketing specialty foods and including them.

the general consensus i've heard is that the bars are more problemmatic than the shakes, but even then shakes are best left to occassional usage. and as far as bread, i wouldn't have any until out of induction myself, as induction with natural foods and avoiding all old triggers seems the most effective. your milage may vary of course and everyone has to decide for themselves, but that's what i would suggest.

I don't blame you for being confused.

In my jaded view, Atkins Nutritionals Corp is more dedicated to making profits than consumer success. Earlier versions of Dr. Atkins book did not allow many of the products now being pushed by the corporation and website.

You would do well to avoid the LC bread until you are well into the OWL (ongoing weight loss phase). Many of us find the bread to be problematic even in the maintenance phase.

Skip the marketing technique and the bread...they are trying to sell their products and the eggs and canadian bacon are filling enough just the two of them...you don't need the bread...if you need the extra fiber add a few veggies to the eggs and make an omlet of it or scramble them together stirfry style!

Yes, skip the bread. Some people, such as myself have also found even low carb bread to be a trigger food. I love the stuff but it does make me want more. (I'm a bread freak anyhow)

I agree with teelbee and would avoid it until well into the plan and then try it sparingly to see how it affects you.

Default As always, I can count on good advice!

With that said, there's no doubt I'm leaving the Adkins bread in the freezer for now!

I agree that marketing and dollars in someone's pockets can override a good thing, at the expense of those of us wanting to lose weight. I made the mistake on one of my earlier tries at Adkins to have one of the candy bars (no, I hadn't read the book as carefully as I should have, and immediately began craving sweets again. So the extra candy bars are also in the freezer!

I saw a recipe for "chips" made from Jicama but can't find it now. Know where I can locate it?

Yippee! I now have my own personal trainer! Beth Ann, a certified fitness trainer, just called and our first meeting is at 9 am in the morning! She's very aware of the Adkins plan and is willing to work with me while I progress toward my goal of losing 20 pounds or at least looking like I've lost it!

Won't be in touch for a few days...I'm flying out Saturday to Virginia Beach to visit my brother. Only wish I looked a little better in my swimsuit! But I'm sure I will by October when I go on my cruise, thanks to all of you! Wish you all could come along!
