Default what to do about protein intake

When I was hospitalized in April, the doctors were telling me that my low carb diet didn't cause the problems I was having. Of course, these same doctors weren't able to determine why I was having renal failure and sent me to a hospital 40 miles away. But I do believe that my diet didn't cause the problem I had.

Now my new urologist has told me that I have to watch my protein intake, along with sugar(no problem there) and use of pain killers, due to some residual kidney damage. He calls low carb a fad that works but isn't necessarily the best thing to do. I forgot to ask him just how much protein while I was trying to tell him that I don't think my protein intake is extreme. In fact, I think I'm zoning more than anything at this point. Anybody have any ideas how much protein is too much or where to get some information on it.

One of my friends had also told me that the protein from veggies and fruits are more easily absorbed by the kidneys than the protein in meats.

Julianne,

There is very little, if any, protein in most fruits and vegetables and there is no one here qualified to advise you regarding the amount of protein you should be ingesting each day.

Given your pre-existing renal problems, you really must consult with your physician and, perhaps a nutritionist, regarding protein intake.

I'm going to lock this thread because there is no other advice you should be considering under the circumstances.

Please let us know what you learn from your doctor.
