It's hard to say what will happen. It varies according to your metabolism, how much you had, your exercise, your water intake, your sensitivity to the ingredients... For example, the hubby & I, both low carbers, decided we would have pizza one night. Over the next two days, I showed no ill effects. He gained 8 pounds. Did he eat more, or exercise less, or drink less water, or is more sensitive to the impact of white flour? Maybe it was the tomato sauce? Who knows. A good thing to do is observe carefully what happens, and chalk it up to experience. Now you'll know exactly what happens when you eat pizza, and can use the information in future food choices. Each choice you make is an opportunity to learn more about how your body works and how individual foods will affect you. A trick I used to use is to heat up a plate full of broccoli, peel the top off the pizza, and melt it over the broccoli. Yummy! Stacie

jen- everybody is different, but for me, when i overeat carbs, i usually bloat up for a few days, retain some water, and feel kind of crummy and sluggish afterward. and remembering that is good encouragement not to make the same choice next time! just stay back on track. individual incidents have only whatever meaning you give them: if you use them as an excuse to stay off-track or define yourself as a failure, "bad" or whatever, then one incident could be a real problem. but if you decide hey, that's just what you ate yesterday, then it's a tiny blip in your life with no significance other than maybe you can learn what your triggers might be...so in that case, it could even support your long-term success! for now...focus only on today, and realize that today, you need to make choices that support your long-term goals. i often encourge people to let go of moral definitions for their eating, since i think that very very often gets us into trouble. what possible use is it to define yourself negatively? it does nothing but discourage you and make your journey harder! ALWAYS define yourself and your efforts postiviely. it makes a difference! remember...you are changing the way you eat for life, or you'll put back on whatever you lose. which means that it has to be integrated into your everyday life, not some kind of test of moral fortitude with every meal. not to mention that i wasn't a bad person before i lost my weight, nor am i a "better" person now. i'm healthier and happier, yes! but i'm not a better person in other regards. feeling bad is fattening, so don't. just stay on course. and if you feel the need to "correct" yourself, then have a little extra water, up your exercise a touch, and use it to do something that is actually constructive. peace out.

| As goddess said "feeling bad is fattening". You feel bad, you think what's the use, you quit trying. I've been through this more times than I can count, with more diets than I can count but there always seems to be this "I give up" moment when I decide that I'm just mean to be fat and I should be happy with it. Now with low carb I am trying to make it without those moments...but if you are like me then you can get rid of them but you can move past them. For example-I had ice cream yesterday. Now today the old me said "eat some candy, you've blown your diet". The new and improved me knows that if I make a choice that is not on the plan I should go right back to plan after. A candy bar in the afternoon doesn't mean you have to have McDonalds fries at night. Unfortunately I agree that you will probably have the high carb bloat. Again, don't let it get you too down. A few days of extra water and being on track will rid you of that excess weight. If you do come out with 8 pounds of water weight don't go eat a cheesecake because you think you're never going to get the weight off. It's just s slight step back before you can move forward again. You can do it!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experinced this. I was doing really well. I had lost 18 lbs. and then had a "blow out" at a 4th of July party and gained 6 lbs from one meal! I felt really bad the next day but decided I was not going to let it be another excuse for me to fall of the wagon (like I have done so many times in the past). My induction period is over but I am learning what I can and what I can not eat. I feel like I'm in a stall right now, so I am going to decrease the carbs more and increase my water and exercise. Then I'm going to squeeze my eyes really tight and pray it works!!!! LOL!

holly-if you "gained" six pounds at one sitting, there's a good bet much of it's water retention. when you eat low carb for a period of time and then go back to high carb for some occassion or another, it makes you retain water. make sure to drink plenty of water--i know it doesn't make sense, drink water to get rid of water, but that's how it works.
