Oh, to have such a dilemma, if only in my dreams!!

I would include plenty of healthy fats, whole grains and additional fruit and nuts.

However, I have known (a very few) people who really couldn't put on weight whatever they did - but that did NOT mean they were particularly healthy or ate very well. Obviously the most important thing is to be putting quality food into your body.

Healthy weight would mean more muscle weight rather than too much "fat" weight. Since you build more muscle by exercise, maybe if your friend exercised more to build more muscle, that would also help. Just my two cents.

It si really strange. I asked him to create a FitDay account and he has been filling it in for two weeks. He tries to eat a lot but of course that can sometimes be difficult, especially on a budget, he still eats twice as much as me though!

He excercises EVERY day and does resistance training, which to me means that the crucial aspect now is his diet. His trainer told him high protein but I am not convinced, I agree that more fat is the way to go. I already suggested nuts, which ones would be the best ones for him?

Can anyone help me compile a sample menu or at least a list of foods for him to choose freom which could be a good start for him?

Macadamia nuts are the ones recommended by Atkins for starters. I get them for a little less money at Costco. I used to anyway. I try to avoid keeping these things too handy. Costco has lots of other nuts, too--I mean edible ones.

Ditto adding good fats--salad dressing, shmear on the mayo! Cream on the cereal, whipped cream on the fruit. Cream cheese and sour cream dips with veggies.

He might be able to handle more cheese: melted on veggies, mixed into omelets.

Boy, I wish I had the problem. I've enjoyed just writing this post.

Thanks Barb, I did recommend macademias (they are my favourite) but when he went to the health store they had none in so I will buy some for him next time I go to my regular place. BTW I am in the UK so Costco is a no no really! :(

What about the protein aspect? He is finding it difficult to get all the protein in so has started having a shake in the morning.

What has got the most protein? Chicken? Beef? Fish?

Meats/fish/poultry all have the same amount of protein 7 grams per ounce but having the less lean cuts like red meat instead of poultry/fish might help, also my brother had this problem a couple of years back and bought a product from GNC that was basically a protien shake that was supposed to help with the addition of weight/muscle he had good results with it and he was always a health nut basically only eating fish/poultry but when he added pork like bacon, ham and just plain pork cuts in general plus red meat of any kind really helped him put on the weight.
