| My question to the group is how do you manage to eat in this WOEing and still feed the family, my DH is one of those people who can eat whatever he wants and my dd (now 1yr and 3 mos) needs to have all those good grains for growing. She seems to have Daddy's metabolism so far. I struggle with dinner when I am feeding them bisquits, fries, or noodles, and I am eating my salad and meat... Also I have never been a big veggie lover. I can tolerate salad, and some other veggies uncooked but oh god dont cook them or I will be sick... Thoughts? Heidi |

| So don't cook them...rely on things like broccoli, spinach leaves, cauliflower, cucumbers, baby carrots, sprouts, cabbage, and the like...put in a bit of cooked here and there and try new things...you may find that some of the ones you didn't like before you don't mind now and so on...I definitely eat more veggies than I ever have in my lifetime...and I like them! I sitll don't like celery...and things like brussle sprouts and okra are on my do not eat list...but lots of others that I never realy had a taste for cooked I now like that way...like cauliflower...but Is tarted with mostly raw veggies and worked from what I knew I liked. WIth the family...no one needs the processed grain products...not even your 1 year old...she needs good whole grains...which she can get from other sources than the white flour products which have very little in the way of nutrition i them anyway...whole grain breads, and the like are great...but whole grain cereals are better...oatmeal (not the packets), cream of wheat, and those are better for you. The less processing the better. Stop making hte biscuits and all...DH may ahve a great metabolism but that doesn't mean he needs the processed foods either. I stopped cooking them and my DH stopped eating them.

| My hubby eats pretty much what I eat, BUT I will add a starchy veggie for him with dinner. I throw a potatoe or frozen ear of corn in the microwave for him, and it honestly doesn't bother me if eats those veggies. I'm eating broccoli, and cauli with my steak, he has broccoli and a baked spud. Compromise... On your children, as long as you avoid the totally junkie foods like sugar laden snacks, sweets, and the like, she should do fine. Now is the time to instill good eating habits in the little one. Teach her that fruit is a better choice than a cookie; whole grain/whole wheat bread is better than white; cheese and yogurt are better than sugar laden ice cream...on and on. Just make sure she gets the required dairy, protein, grains, fruits and veggies. Afterall, it is about healthy eating. Glad you are back with us! Post often and let us know how you are doing. Good luck! HTH

| Congratulations on doing such a great job keeping your weight in check with the pregancy! That is not easy and you deserve a lot of credit on that score. Oh, I also think your dd and dh would be much better off with whole grains, if not all of the time, as much as possible. You can buy these really good whole grain dinner rolls now days. Keep them in the freezer and just take out what your DH and DD will eat. If you haven't tried some of the cauliflower recipes for LC, you are in for a treat! My DH doesn't have a weight problem, but he now likes mashed cauliflower (mashed with cream cheese and brie) much better than mashed potatoes or white rice. I was never much of a veggie eater until I was in my late 30s. I find that sprinkling them with grated cheese makes all the difference. Some times I use Trader Joe's yogurt cheese, sometimes cheddar, parmesan, or even mizithra cheese. If there's an Asian market nearby, you may be able to buy some shirataki noodles, which are pretty LC. Marci gave us the run down on them: Konjac noodles. As long as you rinse them well, they are quite an acceptable substitute for flour noodles. The noodles only take a minute to heat through in the microwave, so they are very convenient for a quick meal. Safeway had them on sale a few weeks ago, so I stocked up.

| my family eats more or less what i do, but maybe with a few additions. i've found to some degree, my tastes also change after eating low carb. you should try different veggies from time to time, as you may find you like some you didn't care for before. but whatever it is that you like, eat that! i sometimes put cheese sauce on my veggies too, to make them a bit more appealing both to me and the fam.
