| I found this quote in an article on the website for Prevention Magazine (not my favorite source of information, but often interesting): "...just as not all calories are created equal, neither are all dieters. As Karen Brown discovered, weight loss finally works when it fits your personality, your lifestyle, and your taste in food." Exactly! I never argue with people about which diet "works" the best. All diets work! But it's only the eating program you can live with forever that works forever. Thank you, Dr. Atkins. |

| My thought exactly! I have a friend who would rather drop a brick on her foot then follow a low carb plan - for her, low fat diets work. Not me! Give me low carb any day.

| I agree! I'm following atkins and I've lost 9 pounds on induction and I feel great! My sister is on Jenny craig and she loves it because it's what works for her. Personlly I that I'm able to go to Boston Market and if I'm really hungry I could have 1/2 chicken with steamed vegatables(just pick out the carrots) ! and I love the Waist Watcher diet soda. A rootbeer float made with seltzer and light cream has cured my sweet cravings those first few days. Mel |

| And by the way, one other thing Atkins does is teach me/you how to make good food choices from real foods--I mean, choosing and preparing foods from the grocery store. I don't use low-carb snack foods or convenience foods, with the exception of an Atkins shake occasionally. I don't even use low-carb baking substances, since it seems handier just to be happy without things like muffins and breads. It's all about personal choices. |

| Barb, What a wonderful quote and topic! I remember hearing a diet "guru" (cant remember the name) say the only foods you should buy at the grocery store are on the outer perimeter. With Atkins, that is where my food comes from!! I have family members who are disgusted when I tell them I am still on "that diet". But I know that they are not educated on the specifics of Atkins and honestly, I think they are jealous. Most of my overweight family has done a variety of diets; all have failed in one way or another. Myself and my husband have lost over 65 pounds together...but no... low carb is stupid and unhealthy?? I think not!! |

| Whoops pushed the button too soon ............................. I have found that atkins is perfect for me I get to eat plenty of nice food, I still drink alcohol often, with diet coke and I am still losing weight I don't feel I am missing out on anything I don't do Atkins on a really strict regime (as in counting carbs) but I eat as much meat/fish/chicken as I wish and pretty much as much veges and salad as I like (excluding potatos and corn) I take it easy on pumpkin and onion but do sometimes have them. I have milk in my coffee at work but use cream at home. I use nuts for snacks and sometimes popcorn and I eat fruit if i feel like it an apple or orange, will be eating berries soon as it gets warmer here.. I have lost 40lbs now and am almost at my goal so I think it is working for me......Where as nothing else has ever worked......If anyone wants to lose weight/feel better. give it a try you will be amazed I am sure....Give it a couple of weeks at least and I am sure you will all be hooked.......Just like me............... |

| I'm happy to see others chiming in here with their success stories. Key words like "sometimes" and "educated" pop out. Atkins (or any way of eating) is about personal choices--and "sometimes" you can choose to eat a great variety of foods. Being "educated" about the science as well as the practice of Atkins is the key to making it work for your own body over time. Now that I'm involved in the challenge of maintenance, I can still see that it's one day at a time, one choice at a time. But I'm well-educated! |

| After yo-yo dieting on low fat plans for many years (lose weight only to gain it back in half the time plus more), I am amazed at how easy following Atkins is.
