Smile New to forum, but not to LCE

    Greetings!
Just a note to say hello and see if I can actually figure out how to post here! I am beginning a modified Atkins approach to low-carb eating today. I found this great site while searching for low carb meals and menus. Though I have used low carb diets a couple of times in the past, I have never stuck with it. I realize that my metabolism must be changing or something because I am gaining weight rapidly, even though I have not changed my eating habits from what they have been in the past. Something to do with turning 40??
Anyway, looking forward to sharing the journey as I try to make this a lifestyle change...

I'm with you. I've done this before and lost, but fell off the wagon. I'm 40 now so it gets harder. I'm thrilled to see so many success stories and know that this will be the one. I have several friends that have stuck to it and REALLY lost...forever.

Next summer, my son gets married and I have my 25 year class reunion. Seems like good incentive, huh?

Great incentive, Woodin! I'm in Texas, too! and coming back to this, and finding that 35 is not so easy either!

    Welcome!

FWIW, I experienced a great deal of weight gain in my late 40s and early 50s. I tend to agree that my body's changes required a different diet. The low fat, low cal diets that worked well for me in the past (e.g., Weight Watchers) were increasingly ineffective. I was amazed and very pleased to discover that low carb eating worked so very well for me. I lost 40 lbs in 2003 and I've done pretty well maintaining that weight loss.

Out of curiousity, what are your modifications to the Atkins' approach?

Welcome, and have a happy journey! The people here are helpfull and supportive.
IMO, somewhere in the 40's our bodies go into "longevity mode" and our metabolisms start to slow down. For us, that means not just changing to LC but lowering our intake of foods as well. The body just doesn't need it anymore. Exercise after 40's is important too.
There's enough of you in Texas, you could have organized LC gatherings. It would be big! Oh yeah, Texas does everything big, right.

We don't do everything big... things are just bigger here I guess that explains why there's more LC'ers here!
