Welcome, Robin.

A protein sparing modified fast diet is a very low calorie diet and a fairly radical approch to weight loss. Research indicates that it has some very problematic effects when used for more than a few weeks, such as a serious reduction in resting metabolic rate. What this means is that your body goes into a real conservation mode - your body lowers it's metabolism and makes the absolute most of anything you put into it.

The research indicates to me that the various, more moderate, low carb plans such as Atkins, SouthBeach, the Zone, etc. are much less stressful to the human organism. IMHO, you need some veggies, my dear - nice green leafy ones and in liberal amounts.

I hope you'll look into the various programs and then get the book that goes with the program you've chosen. It is an important road map that you'll consult often along the way.

Hope you'll make yourself at home here.

(I'm going to split your first post off to it's own thread, so more folks will notice it. )

Welcome, Robin!

This is a great site for support and friendships. It has helped me greatly and I hope it does the same for you.

I wasn't sure what a psmf diet was until I read Maggie's post. Sounds like what the docs put me on when I was on phen/fen. I only ate 1000 calories a day of a lot of meat and barely a veggie in sight. I had huge problems with my colon and digestive system. But I was losing so I didn't question it. Of course eventually I gained it all back plus more.

I'm glad you found us here. I have Sharron's cook book. I was a slacker for a while on cooking good food but plan on returning to the kitchen once I get settled in my new house (I just moved)

Good luck. Look forward to seeing you around.

thanks maggie and cushi...

you both make sense and i really had come to conclusion that psmf isn't for me..for history i did psmf this same time last year and lost LOTS of weight, was wearing sixe 12 from a 22, look great and even felt great, but i didn't stay on the program and re-introduce my food the way i was told and now a year later i've gained it all back plus seven pounds...doesn't that just suck..smile....

anyways, i went through sharron's cookbook and tab all the recipes that i'd like, picked a few and made grocery list...i'm off to the store tomorrow, i think this is much more real to how i will eat from now on?....i HAVE to lose the weight, i'm not happy where i am and i'm having health issues (diabetes) because of the weight.

so thanks for listening, and i'll check with you all tomorrow.

excuse me if i don't "Thread" right or use the right lingo, this is ALL new to me....

Hang in there, Robin. You'll get the hang of the board the more you use it.

Noel, I love your new avatar!
