Talking Doing it without surgery!

I've been lc'ing since May 2005 and I've been just thrilled with the results. I toyed with the idea of looking into various surgeries that are available and I'm so glad that I've allowed the low carb WOE to work its magic. I can't really say that I've tried everything. I did try Weight Watcher's and Nutrisystem. But with those I lost really slowly, like 1/4-1/2 lb. a week. The folks around me were losing 1-3 lbs./week. I was really praying for a solution. Then I decided to give the Atkins principles a try. I have now completely given up the idea of surgery and I'm so glad I did. Since I only have about 65 lbs. left to get to my goal I'd no longer be a candidate. But the real value in losing this way is the lessons that come with it. Learning that you can lose/maintain your weight without suffering from weakness and headaches is just invaluable!

I had a discussion with a colleague who had a ring put on her stomach. She lost weight at the same rate that I'm losing and she said that she's already gained back a good 50 lbs. of what she lost because the ring "stretched out." She told me that she "just needed to go get it tightened again." So in other words, she ate her way out of the ring. And during this whole discussion, she never said a word about changing her eating habits or exercising. For her, the ring was the answer. Scary!

I'm so glad to have found this forum. It helped me beat back a mighty craving for M&M's a few days ago! I'll surely be back often.

Welcome, lolalorr! It sounds like you have done very well and kudos to you for living a healthy lifestyle. I agree, your colleague's solution sounds scary and... not so successful in the long run.

When you get your head in the right place, following through on the plan becomes easier and easier as time goes by. You seem to be doing great!

Most of us have discovered that every diet works. Until we quit doing it! For many of us here, the greatest discovery is a way of eating that works for life--because we can keep doing it for life.

I believe it does take awhile to groove that swing though. So be patient. You're learning a lifestyle on your way to goal. You'll get there!

Welcome, Tracey

I thought about surgery years ago. But only recently found out about the "tightening" thing. I too have a friend that is losing at about the same pace as I was but had to go through that painful procedure. It was right for her but not me buddy.

You are doing this in a great way with healthy eating!

Congrats on your pounds lost and continued success.
