Wink Newbie on a mission ...

Hi All,

I'm new and wanted to say hi to everyone, and that this website is a great idea. I have been using the Atkins Diet to lose some weight and have only been on it for 5 days today. I have only lost 6 pounds so far. I still want to take off about 45 more pounds of excess baggage which I started to collect when I turned the BIG " 40" five years ago. I never had a weight problem till now. My family doctor told me that I'm pre-diabetic and will soon be a type 2 diabetic if I don't change my diet and take some weight off. I recently quit smoking after 20 + years ( cold turkey) don't miss it one bit either and is no problem for me to not smoke. Now, I am trying to tackle the weight problem and start exercising more often than I do. It was great to find this website and read that others have or had weight issues like mine, I'm not alone.

Welcome, Jordan.

You've found a healthy way of eating that will normalize both your weight and your blood glucose levels. I've been doing it for seven years now.

We have a diabetic forum here, too.

Hope you'll make yourself at home.

WELCOME Jordan!!! (that's my new little granddaughter's name!!! But we call her Jo-Jo)

You sound like me (except as far as I know I wasn't prediabetic) but I had zooming blood pressure. So that prompted me to want to lose weight. I only lost 6 lbs my first TWO weeks, so you are on a good track right now!!!! I assume you have read the entire book Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. (DANDR) I just had bloodwork done recently and my total cholesterol was 170 and my LDL/HDL ratio is 2.1. My Triglycerides is at 67. I LOVE my test results and am a happy camper, because I can eat fatty stuff like sour cream, half and half, whipped cream, butter, bacon, and all that jazz and still have good numbers. The doc's office said to keep doing what I'm doing. SO, I am proof that this WOE IS healthy. I never felt better in my entire 51 yrs. I exercise 3 X/week at Curves and am now working on the quitting smoking. So far I am cutting wayyyyyy down. I hope to have it licked by Christmas.

You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself. Stick with us here, you will get lots of support, learn lots of things and make new friends in the process!!!!!!!

Welcome again!!!!!

Welcome Jordan! Quitting smoking is a great accomplishment. Combine that with weight loss and you're likely adding a decade or more to your life.

Hi, Jordan. Glad to hear that quitting the cancer stix wasn't that tough for you--a good sign that once you make up your mind to do something, there's no stopping you. LC should go well for you! Like other health decisions, it's a lifelong commitment. Long-timers here can assure you that it works, and there are benefits way beyond weight loss.

Best wishes.

Hi Jordan..Like all the others who have posted here, I think you're doing a great job. 6 pounds in 5 days is wonderful progress. I think you'll like it here. Everyone is very supportive and there is a wealth of knowledge contained in the posts here.

Congratualtions on quitting smoking. I quit about 7 years ago and have never missed it either. I have to share a story that only someone who has quit smoking would really understand...About a year after I quit smoking I was a Disneyland with my family. At one point during the day I realized that every trash recepticle that was outdoors had smokers all huddled around it puffing away on their cigarettes....at that moment I realized that I had been set FREE...I would never again have to stand at a trash can and get my fix. It was such a feeling of liberation and relief that I started to cry. My family thought I was nuts (or PMSing) of course...but I have never forgotten that revealation of freedom!

ok...enough story telling...welcome, welcome!!

Vickie, that's a wonderful story. I can only imagine the feeling--a truly spiritual experience!

I haven't actually teared up yet, but I can't tell you how many times I look at my "thin thighs" in the mirror and marvel that I actually did it! It only took 59 years.
