.. but not a new Low Carber.
I have been looking for a forum to post on that is supportive and friendly and finally stummbled upon this site. After reading for a couple of days, I decided to join you all last night.
I'm Karen, and started Atkins in August of 2003. I was diagnosed with Insulin resistance the month before and my doctor told me to do Atkins.I was shocked! Low fat was so ingrained in me that it took me a month to read DANDR and process it before I started it! Fortunately it made sense!
I lost 65 pounds in the first 5 months! Then stalled out for about 8 months. After having major surgery, and gaining back 15 pounds, I have been having trouple getting that last 10 of the gain off. After that is off, I will have about 20-25 pounds to goal.
I have has support in a Weight loss thread at my favorite band's fan club forum, and they have really gotten me going on the excersie. I run 9-15 miles a week now and do weights at my gym. I cross train with the Eliptical or going for a walk. But as most of them are on Low fat diets, although they are very supportive, they dont understand Low carb well.
My short term goal is to get to 160. That will be the last of my surgery weight gain (and currently only 8.5 pounds away.) I really want to knock off the rest by March for the Bon Jovi Concert!
I am a Stay at home mom of 2 kids and work part time from home so I have quite a bit of control over what is put in front of me. I just need help being good again. I want to get through the holidays with a loss so I am really looking forward to being a part of this comunity!!
