| Hi. I'm new here an I wondered if I might get a bit of advice. 5 years ago I picked Dr. Atkins' book and I started on my way with a low carb life. 50 very quick pounds later, I was thrilled and everyone I knew was simply shocked. Atkins was by far the fastest weight loss plan I had ever found. I found myself able to maintain my 50 pound weight loss almost effortlessly, which any yo-yo dieter can surely affirm is a rare thing. The problem is that I became so comfortable with maintaining my weight that gradually I started putting other things into my diet. Small things. A biscuit once in a while and a dish of ice cream every so often. Well, that didn't have any effect on my weight at all, so over the past year I went back to eating the way I always had. You can probably guess what is going on now. Since I threw out my scale years ago, I hardly noticed a little weight gain until suddenly my favorite jeans didn't fit well. Then they didn't fit at all. My husband is incredibly supportive of me in everything I do (or don't do) so I just bought bigger jeans! *yikes* Now I have decided that enough is enough. I have to get back on track. The problem I am having is this: I started the Atkins induction phase again a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. It went well but I became very bored with it. When Thanksgiving rolled around, I ate what everyone else ate. Back to square one. Does anyone have suggestions for combating boredom with food choices in the induction phase? I feel like if I look at another omelette I'll scream. |

| Welcome, ilspeth. Check out this thread on "losing one's scale." Many of us have been there and done that. http://www.lowcarbeating.com/bb/showthread.php?t=14668 I think if you hang around this board, particularly the cooking forum, you'll find that those of us who are maintaining have a pretty varied menu. I suspect that's because most of us really looked at this as a lifestyle change and followed the advice to take nice long OWL and pre-maintenance phases. That's the time during which a person can really learn which foods and in what amounts are compatible with his or her individual metabolism. I hope you'll make yourself at home here.
