| Hello!! I was on induction for several months, lost almost 40 lbs but then became very bored with the limited choices and have regained a few of the pounds because I'm having a hard time staying on induction... My question is, what is a good number of carbs to consume but still lose weight and to still remain in the low carb lifestyle? Thanks! |

| I have no idea how many carbs it too many, I assume that everyone is different? I will tell you that my husband seems to be less affected by cheating than myself. I will see the scale jump up when we are bad, but he will see no gain or very little gain. The good news is that when I do cheat, the weight seems to go down almost as quickly as it came on. Hope that helps...Sorry I cant help more.... Last edited by Heather75; 12-17-2005 at 03:31 PM. |

| Dear Ohdear... If you are planning to stay low-carb for life, and following the Atkins Approach, you are long past the time to move from induction level carbs to OWL, and possibly pre-maintenance levels. The program is clearly spelled out in Dr. Atkins's New Diet Revolution book, which you should own--and read often. No wonder you are "bored." Staying at induction is extremely limited, and ultimately not healthy or recommended at all. There's no "typical" level of carbs for continuing weight loss and maintenance. This way of eating is highly individual, especially over time. However, one important key to success is learning to eat new foods, cook new recipes, and provide variety according to your own tastes and preferences. No magic formula--just your imagination and dedication to yourself. Read the book. Best wishes. |

| Hayne - I do something a little different. I allow myself unlimited veggies - usually about 1/2-1 bag of frozen veggies per day, some lettuce salad, and maybe a small amount of onions, tomatoes, etc... and one what I call "junk carb" serving per day... that's 5-10 carbs from berries, a LC dessert, a piece of light bread, or something along those lines. I also limit my cheese and other dairy intake somewhat because I don't want to have too many carbs, and I'm losing very well with what I'm doing. I try really, really hard to make sure that my carbs are all from healthy choices. The times that I've put my totals into fitday, I've been between 20 and 35 net carbs for the day, and I never feel deprived.

| Make sure you check out the recipe section of this forum. You'll find lots of great ideas, so maybe you won't feel so bored. There is just too much variety in low carb to get bored. Don't be afraid to try new things.

| The answer to your question is unique to the person asking it. It's an educational process. If you're following the Atkins nutritional appoach, OWL is designed to help you find you CCLL - Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing. It's a trial and error stage, during which you will learn your individual tolerance for various foods, in various amounts. Stretch a little - and pay attention to the results.
