Default regular tea vs. green tea?

I've been drinking alot of regular hot tea lately. I know a lot of articles stress green tea but it makes me thirstier when I have it. Does regular tea have health benefits? With the caffeine, should I limit how much I have?
thanks
Ann

hello ann. i'm not one of the tea experts around here....but i can sorta answer some of your questions....

caffeine is a drug, so yes, you should always be aware of your intake. different people can tolerate different amts, tho, so it's definitely a "know thyself" situation.

and yes, as i understand it, green tea does have special properties that other teas don't. if it makes you thirstier, maybe you could just use it to help get your water in, too! you can do a search here (or on google) on green tea benefits to get more info...

Ann,
All teas have antioxidant properties. The caffeine in tea is somewhat different from that in coffee, and many people can tolerate tea when they can't coffee.

Black tea leaves have been dried; green tea leaves are steamed; white tea leaves are the least processed of the leaves. All 3 teas come from the Camellia sinensis plant.
White tea has about 15 mg caffeine, the others 30-60, which is a lot less than coffee.
Teas contain catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant.

For more info, try these links:

Whichever kind you drink, you will be getting health benefits, but the most benefits come from the white. I buy mine from Puritan's Pride. It is very mild, and good to mix with other teas.

Hope this info helps. Come join the Green Tea Drinkers thread. We should be starting a January thread soon, but there's still time to hop into the December thread.
