Today, I have so far avoided some major temptation. A coworker is leaving today, and in honor of her new job, we are having a "food day." Which around here means all the high-carb sweets and treats you can eat. Now, I have no problem staying away from the store-bought pies and doughnuts - never been a big fan of those anyway. But the homemade stuff is difficult to resist. And they have my all-time favorite: Panera Asiago Cheese Bagels. I can easily eat 3 of those in one sitting. Alas, the only thing even remotely low carb is a melon platter, and since I'm on induction I can't do that. So it's going to be a difficult day but so far I've resisted well. I prepared this morning with a mock danish and a snack of some leftover pork loin and I feel satisfied, but sometimes satisfied doesn't stop binges, as we all know. Anyway, had to share my story and I'm sure everyone here has had to handle the work food days. Any support and advice would be appreciated!

| You're fighting the good fight against those "treats". I know I have many a time given in to temptation even when I was completely full. If I know we are having a birthday lunch I usually bring extra food in. Which it sounds like you have done. Also when there are bad carb foods at the office I try to avoid going into the room where they are alone. I feel like there is more accountability if there is someone else there. Of course I have been doing LC for about a year and a half and everyone knows so when I eat off plan they all call me on it. (Which by the way I am pretty sick of and let that be known recently.) I hope you get through the day OK.

Hi, Eddie. You can do it. Take your own snacks. or learn how to make a wonderful lowcarb dessert that everyone will love, and won't even realize they are eating low carb. Cheesecakes are marvelous, and not really difficult to make. Look through the recipe thread, and under the Cook section of this forum. You'll get lots of ideas. Keep plugging in there. It's a one-day-at-a-time way of eating. If you fall off, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back on the low carb wagon, and never, ever beat yourself up for sliding a little. Hope to see you on some of the challenges.

Well, I've made it to 1:30. I have to admit that I did a little slip, I had one peanut cluster. So far so good, but I'm a little worried about it triggering a major binge. Otherwise, I had a good solid lunch and brought my own snacks. I'm not going to let this make me feel guilty but I also don't want to impede my Induction, even though after 3 days I'm already in lipolysis! One step at a time . . .

I can't help you get through today; it's gonna have to be raw will power on your part. But I found that what helps me the most is PLANNING and PREPARATION. When I plan what I'm eating for the day, and actually prepare the food, I know I can only eat from the stash I've prepared and it makes it easier to pass on other things, knowing that I have a low carb snack if I really need it. I try to sandbag my afternoon snack for as long as possible to avoid the temptation of eating something else; just knowing I have my own food helps me stay away from the bad stuff. Having one peanut cluster is fine, as long as that's all you have. My son ordered chips & queso in the restaurant the other day and I allowed myself *1* chip... no damage done.

Hi Eddie, I just hope you made it through the rest of the day. I know the feeling of having food around you all the time. Where I work, there's always high carb food in the kitchen. One of my coworker's wife feel she needs to feed the office and is always baking cookies and cakes. I've learnt to avoid the kitchen totally.

I have to admit I did have another cluster, ok, and half a bagel, but now I'm fine. I realized that what I did was bad when I started feeling very icky. I was just getting past the whole Induction headache/nausea/exhaustion thing, then I did this and felt just physically terrible. It helped me remember why I'm doing this. I was able to get away from the office and the food for awhile and that helped to get rid of the temptation and clear my mind. And I'm leaving early today for a visit to my doctor so I only have less than an hour to go before I'm away from all that STUFF. Next time, I'll plan ahead better (I had forgotten about this food day), and contribute something yummy and low carb that *I* can indulge in!

eddie - Ya done good in my estimation. I love those asiago cheese bagels but I have togo to Panera Bread and buy one and bring it home to eat. Yes I could eat 3 also and follow it up with 3 more. I think you did plan well and avoided a major binge because of that planning. In case you weren't already aware, your small off-plan indulgences of 2 peanut clusters and half bagel were only 17.5 net carbs and 280 calories (approximately).

"Only" 17.5 net carbs?? That's almost a whole day's worth on induction! Never mind. Most of us take two steps forward and one step back, no matter where we are on the journey. Still, part of the process is learning to live in the real world. We never go anyplace without finding worlds of food choices readily available. Getting your head in a place that doesn't think about "deprivation," but instead about the benefits of your new way of eating is a real breakthrough. You'll get there. That said, I know how it feels to walk past The Goodie Table a million times a day. On the way to the restroom because of all the water I'm drinking. In my worst moments, I've actually chewed up a mouthful of something and SPIT IT OUT.:o Don't let anyone see you do this. It's just a step short of bulimic behavior. But it does work. We all know that overeating and wrong choices aren't about being hungry. Hang in there. You're worth it.

Thank you everyone so much for the support! Today has been a much better day. There are a lot of leftovers from yesterday but today I planned ahead. I started off with a great breakfast of scrambled eggs with mushrooms and spinach and cheese, and some bacon. Lunch was a salad with a can of tuna. I brought some deviled eggs, grilled chicken strips, and celery with cream cheese for snacks. I haven't even been tempted because I've stayed satisfied. In the real world, it really is about the planning. I also agree with Barb that overeating and wrong choices aren't about being hungry. It's usually a response to something else going on. In my case, it was my carb addiction trying to win the battle combined with my feeling of "not fitting in" with the work gang because I wasn't eating from the goodies. And yes, 17.5 net carbs are nearly a day's worth of carbs on Induction, but somehow, my little strip turned pinkish last night for the first time. However, I'm not going to let that mean that I can go crazy every day Thanks again for all the support. I really need it!

Good thinking. Know my worst temptation? Chatting on this forum all day! If my boss finds out.... Still, when you find yourself drawn to the goodie table, run back to your cubicle and fire up the forum. It will help. Really!
