Question Eating out

Is Burger King safe for Atkins? If I got a sausage egg and cheese sandwich and removed the bread, would that be safe? Anyone know that carb level?

BK is usually pretty lowcarb friendly

probably count 2 carbs - one for the egg, one for the cheese.
not exact, but probably close enough.

I get their Grilled Chicken Caesar Salads when we're out and about and need to grab something quick. I think you're fine as long as you don't have any of their bread products or breaded chicken and stuff like that.

You can get any of those things without the muffin or roll. I do 2 Sausage Mcmuffin w/eggs without the muffin sometimes on the way to work. They are all willing to give it to you "your way" One thing to be aware of in BK and Mcd and others is the amount of sodium they use. Don't eat their too often. You could start retaining fluid.

Burger King is really LC friendly. They will even serve the "guts" to any sandwich on a plate so that you don't have to remove the bread yourself (I hate when the cheese sticks to the bread and you either lose most of the cheese, or have bread stuck to it).

Thanks for all your input, everyone! I love double cheeseburgers...I just wasn't sure if they use fillers that would contribute to the total carb count. I bought a dining out book that lists good choices for low carb eating.

And that is a good point too! I believe you can look at the nutritional info on their websites. Or even email them. Some may do just that, add fillers.

Okay - here's my suggestion for eating out with kids <smile>

Carl's Jr.

LOW CARB OPTIONS (straight from their PDF nutritional file)

Low Carb Charbroiled Chicken Club Sandwich - 10g Carbs 2g Fiber 7g Sugars 39g Protein
Low Carb Six Dollar Burger - 6g Carbs 2g Fiber 4g Sugars 33g Protein
Low Carb Breakfast Bowl - 5g Carbs 2g Fiber 2g Sugars 58g Protein

Locations in Colordo Springs:
There are eight (8) of them. I couldn't make the address and phone number thingy cut and paste here but....here's the website:

http://www.carlsjr.com/info/map/

Another good place for "fast-food" (do you ever eat anywhere else with kids <smile>) is El Pollo Loco. But <sigh> I can't find one closer than 500 miles from Colorado Springs. Sorry :(

One caveate to eating at these places, or others like them - the sodium count will knock your socks off! Drink plenty of water before and after!!!

Enjoy!

Rosie,

I got another suggestion for a place to eat out, and I checked - they have two (2) locations in Colorado Springs!!

Romano's Macaroni Grill! It's a little more upscale than Burger King but it is "kid-friendly."

On the menu under "Sensible Fare" are the following things which I believe can be worked into your LC woe:

Simple Salmon - 5g Carb 2g Fiber (from the nutritional PDF on the website)
Grilled salmon filet cooked to order with grilled asparagus. Approximately 4 carbs $13.99 (from the menu on the website)

Chicken Tuscana - 12g Carb 4g Fiber (from the PDF file)
An 8 oz. marinated chicken breast with lemon zest served on a Mediterranean salad of cucumber, tomato, arugula, bacon and fat-free feta tossed with Toscana dressing. Approximately 5 carbs $8.99 (from the menu on website)

Mediterranean Shrimp - 17g Carb 4g Fiber [oh this better be a special occasion!!] (from the PDF file)
Five grilled jumbo shrimp on a lightly dressed Mediterranean salad of cucumber, tomato, arugula and fat-free feta. Approximately 1 fat gram
$13.99 (from the online menu)

Steak & Arugala Salad - 9g Carb 4g Fiber (from the PDF file)
Tender cuts of beef on baby arugula, spinach, radicchio, apple-smoked bacon and bleu cheese with Toscana dressing. Approximately 8 carbs $12.49
(from the online menu)

Steak & Arugala Salad w/o dressing - 8g Carb 3g Fiber (from the PDF file)
Tender cuts of beef on baby arugula, spinach, radicchio, apple-smoked bacon and bleu cheese. Approximately 8 carbs $12.49
(from the online menu)

When I go there (*NOT* when I'm staying at 20g Carb per day!!) and am keeping my carbs around 35 per day then I order this dish:

Shrimp Portofino with Shrimp, mushrooms, pine nuts, spinach & lemon butter with pasta. $12.99

PASTA!!

No!! I don't eat the pasta, I ask them to replace the pasta with more spinach. I don't ask them to leave the pasta off, I ask them to *switch* the pasta for more spinach. They'll do that with no problem and I get a plateful of food (portions are nice there) that tastes lovely!! All that lemon butter!

What 'cha think?

~K

I don't know about the BK or MD but I do know that I use to order the taco salad at Taco Time (without the tomato & chips) w/ sourcream dressing. I was shocked when I found out the carb content. WAY more than it should have been and it was because of fillers in the beef.

Thank you, K! That was an awesome list! I have a Macaroni Grill five minutes from my house, too! That's one place I never would have thought to go, too. I appreciate your posts.
