| There are days where everything just irritates me. And today is one of them! Don?t know why TOM (time of month) isn?t in town nor is he coming. Please bear with me while I get out my frustrations. I'm a bit frustrated at the lack of information people have prior to starting this WOE. I'm under the impression that these people are just looking for and easy fix! Don't get me wrong I do want to offer anyone and everyon my support. When I first heard about this WOE, I had actually fallen into a chat group on-line and people informed about how wonderful they felt, and how they had tried everything and nothing had worked etc. etc. I was at the end of my rope. I was in my 20?s, I had high blood pressure and the Doctor was about to put me on meds. In my mind the only people on high bp meds are people in nursing homes. (sorry if I have offended anyone). I was very much interested at finding out more about this Dr. Atkins So I asked the kind people on the Board what the name of the book was and off to the Book. To be quite honest when I started reading it, I was skeptical. ?what do you mean, I can have real butter, cheesecake, whipping cream and still lose weight!?. I actually thought that this Dr. Atkins person was crazy! As I kept reading and things started to actually make sense. I actually read most of the book in one evening. I then started Atkins and lost 12 pounds on induction. I was really surprised because nothing else had worked for me before! I never did expect to lose at the rate I lost on induction when I moved on to OWL. Heck, it took a lot longer to put on the weight I had so I never expected it to be thin overnight. What I?m trying to say is that the best present I have ever made myself was to buy Dr. Atkins New Diet Resolution book. And the second best was to read it! I now actually own several books by Dr. Atkins. Hey the man was a genius. Ok I had fallen off the wagon, and did gain back all the weight I had lost before and some, but that wasn?t the diet?s fault it was my fault. What I also want to say is this is not a ?Diet? and once you reach your goal weigh, and you can go back to how you ate before. This is a way of eating that we will have to stick with for as long as we want to be healthy. I feel like I?m going to sound like Goddess but she is sooo right. If you don?t have a copy of the book, please do yourself a favour and get one! As must the internet and message board offer a lot of support, reading the book will explain so much of your unanswered questions and will also help you understand why this WOE works. One last thing, please eat your veggies! This woe isn?t just a meat and cheese woe! Thanks for listening, I feel so much better now. |

Anik, You said it! Now, I just wish everyone would believe it! Read the book, follow the rules, drink you water, get some exercise. It's so much less complicated and painful than some folks make it out to be...

| You go, girl! There have been times that I literally want to reach through the computer monitor and just slap someone who is obviously way too lazy to ever read the book for themselves and then will blame "the diet" for why they aren't losing any weight or losing their cravings or the fact that they regain all their weight when they go "off the diet". And like you, I honestly do want to help the newcomers, but sometimes people gotta do a little of the work for themselves!

| This thread should be either link to or moved to the Newbie section. Me thinks... All good points. IMHO I will say that there will always be a new person to the WOE that will have questions. And morso many that will start without being fully informed by reading the book. We have evolved into a society that uses the internet as the source of all information. Library usage has dropped dramatically as a result, as well. We should all remember that we are here to support all those that ask for it. That is the purpose of this LCE community. IMHO. Tom.

| Please remember, too, that some people may have read the book but just don't quite understand it, or need some information from someone with a bit more experience. We've all been "newbies" at some point, you know. I recall asking some fairly basic questions way back when, and some pretty great people helped me find my way. Together, when we pool our knowledge and experience, we form an amazing team!

| Speaking of this WOE...when I was a teenager (I'm 37 now) and struggling with my weight my mom would swear by Dr. Atkins WOE. She lived in France and weighed 115 pounds for years always sticking by high protien/low carb! Why WHY WHY didn't I listen?? I guess what I'm saying is I get frustrated when people think this is another fad diet plan. This has been around forever and as stated in the book, has worked for a lot of people. |

| I agree with you Tina, we were all newbies at one time and did have and still do have basic questions. What I was refering to was people who want answers but havent' read the book. Take care.... |

| Anik, you are so right. I've been around these parts (at LCE) for almost 3 years and see this sort of thing over and over and over. But the people who know what they're doing and are doing it right, step in and tell them, You HAVE To Read The Book. It makes me laugh when I see 5-6 posts with all of you out there telling someone who doesn't have a clue.........READ THE BOOK. It's the ONLY way they are going to "get it." And if they don't, well........we have to just let it go. They will eventually figure it out, or maybe not. I will try to set someone straight at first, but then if they show an unwillingness to do the work and the research, they will get an "adios" from me. There are no magic pills or cures for weight loss. It's HARD, takes time and requires knowledge, and it's a process not a miracle cure. And if they aren't willing to do what it takes, then I can't waste my time on them, because all of you who are doing it right should be getting our attention here. YOU deserve it!!!!!!

| HI, Anik. Point nicely taken. The tone of Dr. Atkins's book is somewhat off-putting to some people--he sounds like a tv huckster. But the information is based on a lot of experience and observation, and the more I read that book, the more details I learn. I noticed a tiny typo in your original post. You said, "...Diet Resolution." And that's not really a typo--it's a stroke of genius. RESOLUTION is what Dr. Atkins is all about--the resolution to learn low-carb for life. And that's why we all hang around here--to keep our facts straight, but more important, to keep our heads straight. |

| As a newbie who HAS read the book, now I feel like an ass asking questions. I don't think this post was called for at all. If you don't want to help idiots like me then don't. I was going to post a question about alcohol today but I don't want to piss anyone off. |

| Tammi, Please don't take this kind of ranting personally. If you have experience with other forums then you should realize this kind of a seasonal thing. Especially in the WOE, you have the people who made their New Years resolutions (for the Nth time) to lose weight. And many are looking for the silver bullet to take that weight off. As was noted before... It took many many years to put ourselves into this position. It is going to take quite a bit of work to undo all those "sins." Back to the Newbie bashing... As I said it is a seasonal thing I see on all boards. Maybe cuz we are spending more time in front of the computer instead of doing activities that would be active and good for us. Please do ask any and all questions you may have. I for one don't follow the "book" to the letter. IMHO we are all different and it is up to us to find what works for each other. That is why there are so many success stories out there for each and every diet or WOE. I use the "book" as a guidline but it is not my "Bible" and it should not be yours. I had originally sked for this thread to be put here in the newbie section just to show new members how frustrating it can get for those answering questions. In hindsight, maybe that was a poor decision. It has turned into a beat up newbie thread and surely shouldn't be here in your face. This section is here for you to ask all the "stupid" questions you wish. For "there are NO stupid questions... Only stupid answers" I welcome you and hope you become a very active member in this community. Tom.

| I agree with Tom in that asking questions is great. As a newbie myself, I ask them all the time. The O.P. was not intending to bash newbies. I think most people starting this WOL do their research first, but still have questions that might not be convered in the book. It's also great to listen tot he vets around here...their words of wisdom are not to be missed. HOWEVER... It's often all too clear who hasn't read the book at all, and those are the folks that think Atkins is a meat and cheese diet, or that don't know how many carbs are allowed in induction, and that sort of thing. It *is* frustrating. I've only been around this bb for a little over a week, and I already want to hit my head against my desk when I read things like people not consuming any carbs at all, people eating refined carbs on induction (hello? what's the point of induction?) and other weird posts. I just want to yell... IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK IF YOU CHEAT IT!!! AARRGHH!!!! So, yeah, it *is* frustrating to those of us that are doing this the "right" way, with a positive attitude, the right mind set, and having done enough research to get us through induction at the very least. Stepping off the soapbox now.

| I agree that the book should be read, but as a "newbie" in this group, I actually did this before and was successful. As a woman trying to lose weight I feel that the tone some of you take is very harsh. I mean, are we not all trying to reach the same goal. To live a better life. I call it a diet because from what I usually eat it is. Yes it is a life style, but I guarantee that there is no one out there that does not have their little vice. We just work to not succomb to it. Shame on some of you who are so frustrated. Start your own link where you don't have to answer all our stupid questions. Yet I do believe that many of you enjoy helping us with our questions. I believe this because you were once where we are, and you believe in us. I thank you for that. As for the book. Ha! I have read the book many times, and maybe I am special ed like my kids, but I get confused. The menu's and and meals are a joke. I don't have a clue. Someone sent me a link to a cerel and I spent an hour at the natural foods store trying to find the stuff. BUT, I am trying. I want to be a better mom, wife, and person. NOT for someone else, but for me. I want to be the best me. Maybe I should leave this website, because it is not fun to come in and be made fun of. I get that enough. Good luck ladies, and I pray for all of you. HAWAII

| Tammi, By no means did I want to offend anyone by posting my Frustrations. Anyone who posts to clarify certain items that my not be in the book or to clarify items that are in there but very confusing. Like Rosie stated, It is frustrating. When someone who has not read the book and people stated that they are not consuming any carbs or like Tom stated do not know how many carbs to eat on induction etc. By all means do ask questions! |
