Default Fighting temptation

I'm definitely an emotional eater. Stress, the blues, aggravations, whatever all are triggers for me, and it's a struggle not to totally give in when I'm overwhelmed. Well this afternoon, I did something really stupid---backed into my garage door! Scratched my vehicle (nothing broken or dented, thank goodness) and moved the bloody garage door completely off its tracks, bending the railings in the process. So here's my garage door, half up, jammed into the outside framing, and of course this happens around 5 pm. Thankfully, the guys from the garage door company said they'd come see what they could do tonight. Bless them!! They were able to get it back in place and it's working now. I'm not posting this to share my stupidity though. I was so upset, the first thing I wanted to do was grab something sweet to eat--my typical response in crises past. But I stopped myself!! I didn't let emotions rule me, at least not this time. I know the war is far from over, but I'm really excited that I won this small battle. Just wanted to share!

Good for you! Identifying the emotional triggers to eating is a first big step. You're already on step two, realizing that it actually makes one feel worse when one responds to such a trigger. (Still feeling bad about the trigger, and also feeling bad about the response.)

You're already way ahead!

Good for you! I know the feeling of wanting to seek comfort in food so well, and acknowledging that it's comfort that you're seeking and finding another way to deal with the emotions is an important breakthrough!

Good show!
Next time take it one step further... Seek out a hug instead of food for comfort. Hugs are sweet too.

Cal, that is AWESOME!!!!! You're on your way!!! Dr. Phil says, "We can't change what we don't acknowledge." Those words are worth a million bucks. And you've acknowledged that trigger. What a milestone!!!!!!!!!

Thank YOU for sharing. I feel an "emotional binge" coming on for myself. So I am glad you were open and honest about the way you feel. I'm going to work through this...along with the rest of you!
