Default 2 weeks and no weight loss

I have been on the induction diet for 14 days with no results. Felonee (your featured picture is beautiful) asked me to be more specific about myself. I am a 52 yr old female with my first grandbaby born Jan 20th and she takes my breath away. I must get health so I will have many years to love and spoil her. I'm 5'3" and weigh 200#.
my typical day starts with 2 slices of bacon which I microwave, and one egg usually an omlett with small amt cheese or scrambled. Lunch will be 2 cheese and deli meat roll ups with mayo or mustard. Dinner usually grilled or pan fried steak or chicken with small green salad or green beans or spinished. I do add small amt of tomato to my salad and use carb free dressing. Snacks will be several olives or sugar free Jello with a dollop(I love that word) and sliced almonds. I may also may have some pork rhinds or beef jerky.
Something I am confused about- when you guys talk about some foods causing a "stall" in weight loss does that mean that it will throw you out of Ketoses, or does it mean you will not loose despite remaining in Ketoses?
I have tons of support from hubby and children so I usually remain fairly chipper but as I said before I am loosing heart fast.
I look foreward to your advice and thank you all for your warm welcome.

I too did not lose any weight the first two weeks of induction, it took me a lot of trial and error.

I found that I had to cut down on the cream and the cheese, basically the calories, in order to get the scale moving.

You might also want to consider cutting out the aspartame in the sugar free jelly.

Are you drinking the recommended 2 litres of water a day.

Something to note, nuts are not allowed on Induction, have you read the book or are you attempting this way of eating via hearsay? Read the book, then read it again, not only is it informative but it is also inspiring, especially at times when you need inspiring.

Welcome, Splinter!

I'm glad you supplied a menu in preface to your question. In my humble opinion, you're not eating enough food -- or enough of the right food. Where are your vegetables? For lunch, I'd have a HUGE salad of low glycemic vegetables along with some lean protein. You must eat your vegetables.

What plan are you following? I'm assuming it's Atkins' plan, since you mentioned Induction. Did you follow the plan as it's written in the book? I don't think you did, else you wouldn't have been eating nuts.

As to your ketosis/stall questions, when you're in the OWL phase of Atkins, and you begin adding foods back in, you may experience a stall (a halt) in weight loss. This is why it's important to track which foods you are adding back into your diet, so that you may withdraw that food, thus finding the culprit of your stall.

As for me, I would forget about ketosis and not worry about it. If you are following the Rules of Induction -- and eating according to the book -- then you will achieve ketosis.

Hope this helps...

WELCOME to LCE!!!!

Also, I am wondering if you are getting ANY exercise. Even if you are just walking, it's important to get your bod moving.

I think April is right, you aren't eating enough veggies. Don't be afraid to eat the non-starchy veggies. No one EVER got fat eating watery, green veggies.

If you aren't eating ENOUGH, your body might think it's in starvation mode and won't release its fat stores.

I also didn't lose weight very fast during induction. It was SLOW going. I am an official card carrying member of the Tortoise/Glacier Club. So don't feel alone on this. Some people are very metabollically resisitant. BUT, the good news is, you can STILL lose weight AND be healthy eating this way.

Are you on any medications that might be hindering weight loss??

How much water do you drink?

Have you tried drinking Green Tea?

Welcome Splinter! I'm new to this site and just started the program on 1/10. Like someone else said, there is a lot of trial and error and frustration. At least for me there has been. Take heart...I have not special words of wisdom except I do agree that it sounds like maybe you're not getting enough to eat. Maybe add another vegi into the mix. Lots of water..(something I need to myself). And just know that it will work..it just takes some people longer than others. Oh, and Congratulations on the granddaughter!!

Thank you for the great advice. I did read Atkins years ago but you are right, I need a refresher. As of yesterday I gave up the sugar free Jello and replaced it with a veg and I increased my H2o intake. Also I may be taking in too much cheese. I forgot to tell you that I have one cup of coffee in am with cream. Do you think this is stopping me from loosing any wt? Thanx again everyone

welcome, and a couple of suggestions, splint.

do get a new copy of the book. some things have changed over the years and it is very helpful to have it to refer back to.

common problems with slow/no losses through induction:
  • too much cheese. i believe dr. a. says 4 oz. or less a day. but it does slow people up and if you're not losing, it's a good place to look. likewise, cream cheese can do this for some people.
  • too much heavy cream. while it's 0 carb, it's about 50 calories a tablespoon. if i have too much, i do gain weight.
  • nuts- they're not for induction and they are VERY easy to over-do. they are good in the sense they have nutritional value, but it's one of the things people almost always have portion-control issues with. and i'm at the head of that line!
  • not eating enough. you go too low, you switch into starvation mode as mentioned elsewhere.
  • any use of those darned "low carb" bars and/or other "treats," also known around here as frankenfoods. many folks can get away with the shakes without issue, but for most people, those bars are tricky.
  • some people have trouble with aspertane and caffiene, and some don't. you'll have to experiment.
  • highly salty foods- these can cause you to retain water. the jerky or the pork rinds may be something to look at if you eat a lot of it.
  • not getting the water in, which helps flush that stuff out.
this being said, everybody is different. some people lose very slowly, even on induction. have you noticed any other differences? do your clothes feel different? have you taken measurments? sometimes the inches come off when the weight isn't. weird, but true. bodies can be SO uncooperative!

thanks dee.

and i hope some of the ideas the folks around her had are helpful to you. the scale lies, but that tape measure is much more honest. and as i've often heard, the change in body size is what folks see, not the evil scale numbers.

glad you're feeling more encouraged. and do keep checking in here. there's lots of helpful info and encouragement!

That's right, people SEE the inches you lose, NOT the numbers on the scale. So if you are losing inches, WOOHOO!!!!!! It's working!!!!! There is HOPE!!!!!
