...get rid of high carb crap, i.e. junk food, in your house, my hubby and I just found a GREAT way...we got it all together, kinda broke it all up, like the bread and chips and stuff like that, and put it in a bag and brough it out for the animals...now we are sitting here and enjoying watching the birds and other animals eat. It feels nice to be helping ourselves and helping mother nature....have a great day!

I opted to give mine to my neighbor. She and her husband have four children on a low-ranking salary. They were quite grateful to receive the bounty.

What an enjoyable way to dispose of stale, unneeded food!

Quick question in regard to beans. Most beans (outside of kidney beans) have a fairly low glycemic index. I had thought that in moderation, they were ok on the diet when used as a small addition in things like mixed vegetables or chili. I cut back on the ratio I would normally use, but it is a good source of dietary fiber and not bad in protein either.

just curious

Oh, I think it depends on which LC plan you follow, which bean, and your individual tolerance -- or -- in Atkins-speak, CCLL (critical carb level for losing).

For example, pinto beans run about 15 net carbs per .5 cup. That level is too high for Atkins induction, but some individuals might be able to add some beans back much later during OWL (ongoing weight loss phase) or maintenance.

For my part, I don't like most beans so well that I'd want to use so many carbs for such a small portion.

Still, there is a bean option for those who miss having beans. Some people like to use Eden Black Soy Beans (approx. 1 g. net carb per .5 cup) for things like chili or soups. I have not tried them, but many people have said they are quite good.
