I've been allowing myself certain carbs (probably more than I should, but that's another thread!) but I've had significant problems with a few things that I've eaten-- as in they've made me physically sick and I've had to throw up shortly after eating. The things that have made me throw up have been a single piece of Papa John's pizza, and tortilla chips (16 chips--I counted out per serving size), TWICE. This happened over the course of 2 weeks. I don't know if they caused my system to revolt because of the overall carb monitoring I've been doing, or if it's because of the type of carbs they are. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem? It's certainly made me not want to eat those items again, which is good in one respect I guess.

Hi Calico,
Have you ever seen a movie called Osmosis Jones? Your post reminded me of that movie. I could see the Carb Police investigating the suspicious substance, recognizing it and saying, "Hey that's a carb - Red Alert, Red Alert. Get that out of here, NO CARBS ALLOWED." (If you haven't seen the movie that might not make much sense.)

I haven't had it happen to me but I am not experimenting with much with carbs, as far as I go is the Dreamfields Pasta. Which I had last night, YUM. I hope it's just your body being done with those kind of carbs and nothing more serious like the stomach flu.

I was on Atkins for a long time awhile ago, and what I found was that once I was in ketosis, if I had too many carbs (had pizza on a planned "night off", or bread, or cake...), I got a horrible upset stomach. Never caused me to throw up, but REALLY felt like I had to. It taught me not to high-carb it too often!

I've never had this happen to me either, but it MIGHT be your body telling you to lay off the nasty stuff OR you might just have the stomach flu, it's going around. Hope you are feeling better at any rate.

On the other hand, I do know that if I were to eat like I used to I would get horrendous heartburn. That stuff can REALLY upset the stomach.

I know for me, when I have eaten something off plan, such as a pizza or something like bread, I get REALLY bloated and uncomfortable/queasy.

Hope your feeling better.

The answer for me is yes, I have had that happen. I had been low carbing very strictly for quite some time when we went out and ate Mexican food. That evening I had a very upset stomach and threw up. Nearly everytime I eat high carb food I get a stomach ache afterwards and usually don't sleep very good afterwards either.

i was thinking it hadn't happened to me, but sorta now that i think about it. when i eat too many carbs, i get sick to my stomach, yeah. and feel bloated and yucky for a few hours, but i've never actually gotten ill except for the time i was drinking--kaluha mudslides. i know it was something about the content of the drink and not the amount, becuase i had 1-2, NOT a lot. and it happened twice, too. so i don't do that anymore.

I have also had this problem. I was thinking maybe it was all the sugar in the food I was eating, because I don't eat a lot of sweets. I have noticed after eating high carb food, that I would get very ill feeling and would have to skip the next meal because of it. I had asked my doctor about it, but didn't mention it was high carb so he said he didn't know why that would happen.

This has happened to me too! Kinda like the fact that my body has turned into a health machine and rejects sugar and high carb foods!
