    Wink Hello from me

    Hello everyone...
I am new here, so ignore my ignorance please. I am also new to the low-carb way of eating. I am using the book "Low-Carb eating for dummies."
I don't know if this will make sense to anyone but me but I tried weight watchers and it was almost to easy to cheat. I ate 3 candy bars in one day and still had points to use. Of course my weight loss was nill. But more importantly, my health hadn't improved any. I have diabetes, hypothyroidism,
firbomyaligia, degentive disc disease, and the list goes on. I'm soon to have my 47th birthday and I feel like an 80 yr old woman...so the need for drastic measures was more than necessary.
I removed all the sugar & carbohydrates items from my cupboards, fridge and freezer. I stocked up on water and veggies and protiens rich meats.
And now I am looking for ppl who will encourage me and support me (this would be you .
If you can think of other things I should do...please let me know.

    Welcome, Jessie.

One other thing you should do is pick a real plan (Atkins, Zone, South Beach, etc.) and get the book that goes with the program you've chosen. I haven't read the "Dummies" book, but my experience on this board leads me to conclude that there's some flawed information in it.

You'll find lots of support and information here and I hope you'll make yourself at home.

Hi Jessie and Welcome! I've never read "Low Carb eating For dummies so i'm not sure what that plan involves. If it is actually a formalized plan. You might want to get a book for a specific plan and read it and follow it. I'm of the opinion that you can't read enough becasue everything I've read has motivated me. I'm doing Atkins combined with Protein Power Plan and I have read both books plus just about every low carb plan that is out there.

Welcome Jessie!:jumpgreen If support is what you long for, this is the place! When you have the chance read as many sticky's as you can here in the forum boards. There is some great information and alot of FAQ's are answered there.
Like Maggie said pick a plan that meets your needs. I first started with reading Atkins and then went on to read all kinds and Atkins suited me just fine. However, I have other friends that swear by other low carb programs. My doctor does South Beach!!! It is wonderful having a doctor that can appeciate low carb as much as I do, and doesn't have the "old school" thoughts of how bad it is suppose to be for you. It helps that he is in his early 40's too!
Anyway welcome aboard and good luck!

I just keep rowing toward shore....

Wow! Thanks for all the info! I have the Adkins book & in agreement with Rob, you just can't ever read enough information on good health ideas and advice. I was surprised to see some questionable information in the Dummies book so I had decided to do some more investigating. Thanks for all the tidbits of info and the support! I plan to be around here for awhile and hope to get to know you all.
