Smile Fat Fast???Anyone tried this??

Hey all, I am a newbie here but I have been low carbing for about 2 months now, and doing well. I have read in atkins about the fat fast, just wondering if anyone has tried this? Or any opinions would be great on this subject. Thanks for any help

Hi Phinixis! Welcome to LCE... and congrats for making the decision to get healthy!

About 9 weeks into low carbing i found myself at a weight stall (for almost 4 weeks) and was so frustrated because I had been so dedicated (not one cheat) to Low Carb (Atkins). I thought the fat fast would help.

So I did a Fat Fast and was very faithful to it for the three days required.

I lost three pounds and of course, immediately gained it back the days after. The hardest part? Eating cream cheese straight - bleck.

It was the failure of the fat fast that turned me to these boards two weeks later and I asked the question as a newbie then, and the answers came back WATER, WATER, WATER!! I was definitely not drinking even slightly enough water!! I started with my 75 ounces a day from that point forward and I immediately lost 4 pounds (in that week)... kept it off and continued then to lose.

I'm not saying the water was IT... but I believe it was - and I did decide that the fat fast was both unhealthy and ineffective. I would certainly argue against it...

Good luck in your new lifestyle and welcome!

hello phin.

i'm a little confused. if you've been lc'ing for two months and doing well, with just a little left to reach your goal, why would you be even considering a fat-fast? the fat fast is a rather extreme measure intended for folks who are having extreme difficulty losing. it's not intended for folks who can lose with less drastic measures. also, depending on what you do and how long you do it, you run the risk of slowing your metabolism down by convincing your body you're staving it.

by this point, you should be well into the owl phase of atkins and preparing for pre-maintenence. owl and maintenence are where the real magic of lc happens, because it's where you learn to MAINTAIN what you lose. it's your promise you'll never have to be overweight again, if you learn what you need to now.

while lc can work like a crash diet because you tend to lose at a good clip, especially at first, if you use it that way, you are dooming yourself to gaining it all back if you don't lose the "diet" thinking and move towards the life change thinking. it's not about how stern you can be with yourself, in my not-so-humble opinion. it's about finding ways to make LC "just how you eat." once you get there, your giving yourself the real gift: a lifetime of weight control.

the speed makes no difference. the permanancy is what you're seeking.

i would advise you to rethink your decision to eat so very little, and instead focus on developing healthy habits that will serve you for a lifetime. good luck.

thanks for you input, I guess I just had a meltdown....lol. You opinion means alot to me and I know that there is no quick fixes in life. I will skip the Fat Fast and continue on the sane, healthy way. Thanks again.

phin-i'm so glad to hear you rethought it! it sounds as if you're really doing fine...and i understand--i was the queen of impatience myself going in. that's why i can spot it so easily. the changes in thinking are as important as the changes in eating, and you have to do both.

it sounds like you're making good progress to me, so hang in there. it's a journey, so do your best to enjoy it. life's much too short to spend it being cranky and stern with ourselves. more fun to live it up!
