Default sensitive teeth early in Induction??

Hi all, I'm a vet - but going through a re-induction (started last Sat, March 25). I am noticing that my teeth are more sensitive these last couple of days (especially to cold, like my cold water). I have switched to a toothpaste for sensitive teeth, but I was suddenly realizing that I may have this issue everytime I re-induct (which I do a couple of times a year given my mobile lifestyle)...

Just me getting older and the teeth recede faster? Is it just a fluke and I incorrectly think it happens just when I do induction? Does anyone else notice this? If not first time Inductees but how about habitual re-inductors?

Any feedback would be welcome.

Oh, and it seems that after 3-4 days of using the teeth sensitive toothpaste - it goes away...

Boy, Rachel, that's one I've never heard. Can't think of any reason why, either. I guess we all have our little quirks. Whenever I do induction, it cleans out my colon, fast! It's probably our bodies' way of adjusting to the change in carbs. Yours is teeth, mine is gut. Go figure!

Rachel, sometimes my teeth become more sensitive when I'm under stressl

I tend to unconciously clench my molars and/or make a kind of suction in my mouth, with the result that my lips and cheeks press harder on my front teeth. Another thing I do that puts pressure on my front teeth is making a moue expression.... These are things I tend to do when I'm concentrating really hard on something or just not that happy.

Just as a test, try to make a conscious effort to keep your jaws and lips relaxed for a few days. The discomfort/sensitivity should get better, if that kind of muscle tension was causing it.

Thanks guys - who knows!?

The good news is that the sensitive toothpaste seems to do the trick for the time being.

I am no veteran, however, I just wonder what your calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin D intake is like on your induction phase.

Not sure if cheese is something you can eat on your induction phase though.

I primarily follow the Protein Power Plan.

I just keep thinking for some reason maybe 1 oz of low carb sharp chedder cheese might help.

Its just an idea. I am very glad the switch in toothpaste helped. The toothpaste is probably the solution.

Thanks! Watching the minerals is an excellent suggestion. I always take supplements and Induction does allow cheeses and leaffy green veggies (I eat a lot of spinach on Induction - and other times!) so I'm very well covered. A good suggestion, though!

It never last more than 2-3 days and then it goes away... it's a mystery!

Hi RQP,

I'm a dental hygienist, so I just HAD to chime in here! I don't think induction itself would have anything to do with your teeth being more sensitive. Maybe you are drinking more cold water? I have very sensitive teeth myself and use sensitive toothpaste regularly. I'm glad it seems to be helping you. I have taken to drinking most beverages thru a straw, mostly due to vanity, as I'm drinking lots of herbal teeth and don't want to get tea stain! lol But straws are a good way to avoid the sensitivity in the first place! Maybe you just pay more attention to your body's signals when you're on induction.

Anyway, changing your diet shouldn't effect your teeth unless maybe too much acid (lemon, vinegar, etc) could. Just my point of view.
