Cool HELP!!!Need on the go lunches.

Hi,

I'm starting the carb addict's diet for the second time, and I really want to do it right this time, because I know it works well for me.

I'm usually in my car during lunch time, and the weather is hot. What kind of foods can I take with me in my car for lunch? I'm usually tempted by fast food restaurants, and I like a side salad and burger without the bun, but a milkshake, fries, or ice cream cone are very tempting so I want to completely avoid the fast food restaurants. I also like Atkin's bars but they melt in the car. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also is there a tutorial for getting around this web site. I'm afraid I may not be able to get to the answers for this thread (I'm new to any kind of posting).

Thank you

Welcome,

I'm sure you'll get many suggestions on the lunch issue. As for this board, check out the FAQ link above and the "stickies" (first bunch of messages on this newbies forum).

HTH!

Hi DDP! Welcome to this great site and I hope you are able to really move around this site and read a lot of the stickies and other posts that are helpful.

Lunches on the go are tough at first, but can get better as you get used to it. One of the best investments you can make will be a small (like a sixpack sized) softside cooler (with the cold packs/ice packs)... you can put it on the passenger side floor out of the direct sun and near the air conditioner... then you can fill it with stuff you need to keep cool.

Then, string cheese, beef jerkey or beef sticks, tuna or chicken salad, roasted chicken drumsticks (buy a pre-roasted one from costco or the supermarket!), celery stalks filled with peanut butter or cheddar cheese spread, turkey and provolone cheese rolls, salami and cream cheese and dill pickle sliver rolls (those are great!), there are lots of options - I'll keep thinking...

Good luck and welcome to a healthier new you!

delighted you are here - and am very happy to help!!

Once you get the cooler, buy a bunch of the ziploc-type plastic containers (with the blue lids - they have 1000s in the supermarkets - every conceivable size!)...

At night mix up either tuna salad, ham salad, chicken salad (use the breast meat from that pre-roasted chicken you got at Costco) or even egg salad. I mix the meat or egg with: finely chopped scallions, finely chopped celery, and dill relish (not sweet relish) and then mayo and for the ham salad I use plenty of mustard, too. In the tuna salad you can also mix in a hard boiled egg and some dill weed. In any of these salads I add celery salt and lemon pepper instead of the usualy plain salt and pepper.

Honestly, you'll never make plain tuna salad again! These are all great and low carb!
DH also takes along celery stalks to use as a scoop to eat them with - so he gets the extra veggie in - and some 'crunch' - something that can be missing in a low carb lifestyle (crunch!)

Good luck - come back and visit again!!

FIRST OF ALL WELCOME!!! DPP450:great:

*Idea: prepare the night before, or cook everything on Sunday ( or whatever night is easiest for you) so that you can have something to pull out, and bag up (portion sized) snacks for yourself; which in turn would be part of your lunch.

Adapting to the environment and be prepared....key factors in success!

Good Luck!
