| Hi. I just found this board not too long ago. I think it's great to have support when on a LC diet. I had been on Atkins years ago then I switched over to Somersizing after only a week of being on Atkins. I cheated and still lost weight. But then I went off completely and have been trying vegetarian/raw food diets and to no avail, at least with the weight loss. I felt better over-all but I have actually gained weight. I have arthritis and really need to lose a lot of weight. My problem is trying to find a LC diet plan that really suits me. I don't like red meat all that much. I love fruit and I don't really care for vegetables although I will eat them occasionally. And of course I love chocolate and cool creamy foods. I would need some plan that doesn't require a lot of meal preparation because of the arthritis. I know LC works but I have trouble sticking to a plan for very long. I'm hoping to get encouragement from this board and hopefully I'll get down to a weight that's healthy for me. Have a good day!

| babystepping- welcome! and congratulations on the decision to take better care of yourself. as far as lc plans, you're most likely going to have a tough time if you aren't into veggies, since that's the mainstay of this way of eating. i'm not sure how you could eat raw/vegitarian without liking veggies, but i supposed you managed, huh? if you find that lc seems to work for you, you might be interested in johnny bowden's book, living the low carb life i believe it's called. he runs down the various plans and gives you the info to help pick the best one for you. it comes highly recommended. good luck to you. |

| Welcome Babystepping! :hi: I would also like to recommend a book that might help you VERY much... The Schwarzbein Principle, by Diana Schwarzbein, MD. She is a renowned endocrinologist in California and while her book is geared primarily towards diabetics (and pre-diabetics), it also addresses autoimmune diseases and other illnesses (like arthritis and thyroid disease. I highly recommend it! Actually, you *might* find her second book more helpful as it seems to deal with these other illnesses more AND it provides a good, lower-carb eating plan that is not as strict as Atkins or Protein Power. If you can -- and are willing -- I would read BOTH. If not, though, definitely get her second book (The Schwarzbein Principle, II). I think it could be a real life-saver for you. It's also VERY enlightening and is the reason why I have made the decision to eat this way for LIFE! HTH,

| Thank you goddess and Lawbooks for the welcome. I'll look into the books mentioned. When I was on the vegetarian/raw diet I ate mostly fruit and drank mostly fruit juices and also lived on whole grains, potatoes and sweet potatoes. This way of eating just doesn't work for me. I'm glad I found this board. Thanks again.
